randrewrussell
I am so new to all of this but I am really impressed with all the tones from this Helix FB- really amazing. I am working on a James Honeyman Scott sound from Pretenders live 1981 (Santa Monica) and I think that the Helix unit might be the cheapest way to get there. JHS had some 200 watt Marshall "Majors" modded by Peter Cornish I am told and they were so unique that Jackson Browne ended up buying them from the estate. It was a thick lush watery sound and he used Boss and Cornish effects and had a pedal board that was designed by Cornish. Pete told me that he personally hotrodded the sound with treble boost and a Roland Space Echo 501 and Boss CE 1. I recall that Pete said that he borrowed a lot from the Gilmour SOS sound but gave it a sort of Ronnie Wood Faces crunch. You can hear what I am talking about very clearly if you listen to the Pretenders live Santa Monica concert which was broadcast live September 1981. Sadly most if not all the equipment disappeared after his death so that sound has not been heard again. Any help would be appreciated. brue58ski
Given that the amp was modified and the pedal board is an unknown configuration, this is a tall order. Could you post a link to the concert or anything that has that sound? I couldn't find it on Youtube. The Helix has all of the effects mentioned although the Space Echo is the 201 not the 501and I think the 501 was called a Chorus/Echo.
