4CM for pod HD desktop bean

I have read on the forum that there is a way to use the 4CM on the pod HD bean and was wondering if that works and if there are any updates or issues on the old instructions on how to do it ?

Any information would be appreciated. I just want to use the effects send and return of my new PRS MT-15 tube amp with the pods effects,mainly the delay and noise gate after the amps own preamp.

Thank you

Not meaning to bump the post but I wanted to add that I have used the pod HD bean in the 'return', section of my amp (guitar > pod input>pod left output > amp return) as that works just fine,it's just that I love the sound of the preamp of my amp and want to use the gain,EQ,etc. Of my amp and then use fx from the pod -specifically delay,reverb,and noise gate - having those be uneffeted by not running them in the front of my amp. Adding the delay to my amp really sucks compared to the other way around via effects Loop.(I can be sure)

So I did try to use the pod as if like I were just hooking up a delay pedal and another fx I want to use by guitar > amp input  then  Send > pod bean input then pod left output > into return of the amp. I don't understand why that doesn't work at all ? It is set up just like if I were using any other effect or multi effects ?

Thanks. I hope someone on the site can help me with this but I realize the PD he bean has been discontinued and I imagine most people hear have the pedal boards such as the he 500 on up.

You can do it. I did it years ago when the Desktop first arrived and I have a post on here some place. Even have a patch attached as I recall. Anyway, it is an extremely tweaky setup to do it...You will need an XLR->1/4 adapter so you can serialize the chains using the Mic input. turn the trim all the way down to start. There is enough padding in there to do it. The basic idea is that you setup the inputs as guitar and mic...make sure you pan the mixer hard left and right...You will need a dual amp patch for this...just set the amps to none...The bonus here is that you can actually use amp models too and bypass your preamp on a patch if you want...it's flexible.

GTR -> GTR IN

LEFT OUT->AMP IN

AMP FX SEND->MIC IN

RIGHT OUT->FX RETURN

The problem with this setup is the Master on the POD...it sets both outputs at the same time...You have to find a nominal setting and then use the mixer to get the levels matched for hitting the preamp and the fx return...once you get that setup, then you basically have to leave the Master pinned...leveling patches takes a bit more time with these sort of patches as they are about as complex as it gets on the Desktop...

I will try to find that post

.

Would you tell me why hooking up the bean can't be done like a chain of (i.e) 3 effects pedals.

Guitar > Amp input

amp send jack > pod  guitar input

Pod left output > amp return ?

This is how I'd do it for a basic pedal effects Loop,what is it about the pod that this can't be done the same way?

sure you can do it like that if you want to. But basically, you would not really be able use much in terms of gain and filter stomps that tend to work better in front of the amp. That's the reason for running 4CM....If you were to put it in the loop only, I would recommend using the MIC input over the GTR input...With the trim all the way down it pads a bit more than the guitar input does...That is useful for the FX send of an Amp where it might be a little hot...

No I mean,I tried it that way because I really only want to run delay/noizegate/ and reverb post guitar preamp and I don't get any sound which is why I was asking about your 4CM workaroud.

Thanks though,I will keep in mind using the mic input instead.

Well, I would say start with an empty single amp patch with the amp set to NONE...Insure that the active input is GTR. Navigate to the amp model and insure that the channel volume is turned all the way up. This is the bypass volume. You will need this if you are wanting to run FX only. At this point the loop should be passing dry signal.

AMP FX Send->GTR Input

Left OUT->FX Return
