andy6527
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I'm getting confused between 1024 and 2048 bit IRs. I have purchased an IR from Celestian, and when I download it, I can specify Helix, which gives me the correct sampling frequency, but I cannot see an option for 1024 or 2048 bit. Do I just change the IR block between 1024 and 2048 and use the same IR, will it just cut off sooner if I select 1024 bit?
soundog
The 1024 vs 2048 are the number of samples, so the "length." Use the IR block setting for 1024 vs 2048, Since Celestion IRs usually come in either 200 and 500 ms lengths, and Helix truncates after 42 ms on the higher 2048 setting, you may as well use the shorter 200 ms length IRs if you have a choice. I don't hear much diff between the 1024 and 2048 IR block setting, and use the lower one to save DSP. You can listen to both settings, though, to see if you hear any diff. FYI, Helix converts all .WAV IRs to 16-bit, 48kHz mono.
arkieboy
Fairly sure I read that if you want your IR simply to provide the frequency response imprint of your cab, then a 1024 IR encodes frequencies well out of the range of human hearing. Certainly I can’t tell the difference between 1024 and 2048 on my Redwirez IRs
