Latency If You're Interested.

Th acoustic models have never seemed right to play, for me anyway. And i think i've found out why, there is a difference in latency between the electrics and the acoustics.

The electrics have around 3ms and the acoustics have about 8ms. I know latency doesn't bother some people, but i hate it..unfortunately, and my rig uses a few digital units so it all adds up.

Are you using alternate tunings? Pitch shifting will induce latency.

I measured this once and came up with similar figures, I saw 2ms latency on the Tele model at the 1/4" output compared to a mic'ed recording of the same performance but failed to allow for 1ms per foot from the guitar to the mic - after compensating for that I get around 5ms latency on the Tele model and 8ms on the 12 string acoustic models, not too bad and not noticeable to me when playing. The latency increases when using the JTV's Alt Tune knob, it is 20ms total with the acousic 12 string models alt tuned all the way down to C which makes that combination unplayable for me - not that I would ever need the 12 string detuned to C but if it is one there it should probably be useable IMO.

12 strings are still using pitch shifting. The latency will of course increase. Even nonpitch shifted strings on a 12 string probably have latency applied to it so that the timing matches the timing of the octave shifted strings.

 

20ms sounds pretty bad.

Yeh i recorded the pluck of the string through a mic an inch away and also direct from1/4" jack. Was just doing some latency tests on some other gear and thought i would do the JTV.

when daisy chaining with other digital gear it builds up in each one.

Anyone know the latency on the wireless G30 system?
