Program Changes in Snapshots

Hello,

I am using my Helix with a Mesa Triaxis as a preamp (sounds fab!). Here's my question: If Helix is set up in Snap/Preset mode, can I send midi program changes with each snapshot within a preset? What I am trying to accomplish is to set up a snapshot where I can have a clean setting on Triaxis on one snapshot and another dirty setting on Triaxis on another snapshot.

BTW, midi program changes work just fine with each preset, but snapshots appear to do nothing. Any ideas?

Thanks!

When you load a preset, Helix sends the PC (if enabled in Global MIDI) and the IC and Stomp settings made in Command Center for the Snapshot that loads first.

When you select a snapshot within a loaded preset, it sends the IC messages assigned in that snapshot. Set an IC to send the MIDI command that sets the channel on the Mesa.

Once you've set a snapshot like that, it's a good idea to set all the snapshots in that preset to select the proper channel on the Mesa for each snapshot.

I assume you're referencing the "Instant Commands"? I want to select different channels per snapshot. Are you saying I would need to add those midi program changes in the Instant Commands? Not on an individual foot switch?

If you want the channel to change WHEN you load the snapshot, use ICs. If you want to change it ON DEMAND, use a footswitch. Or, you could do both, just remember that when the preset loads, it loads the footswitches assigned to the active snapshot (the active snapshot is the one that was active the last time you saved the preset). So, if the IC switches to channel 1, and the footswitch switches to channel 2......just make sure that if you want to use both methods on a certain snapshot, don't save the preset with that snapshot active!

Got it! What I was doing wrong was in command center.  To properly assign midi commands to each individual footswitch in Snapshot mode, you have to select the Instant Command (Lightning Bolt), then actually push the footswitch you want to individually program, and assign a midi command to each one. Now it seems simple!

This is awesome because now I can go from clean to crunch to heavy without changing a preset, hence no "preset dropoff". Very cool...

Thanks for your help!

ICs are separate from footswitches. You can use the joystick to move from ICs (which send on snapshot load) and footswitches. Or you can press the actual footswitch, but it isn't necessary to select an IC (lightning bolt) before programming a footswitch. But, as long as it works for ya, it's all good!

I'll try that. Thanks for the help! I'm sure this probably helped others who are trying to do this as well.

I'm not a midi novice, but the Helix is new to me. My back hurts fro the hours spent hunched over this thing!

Got it-thanks. BTW, the Triaxis as a preamp driving the Helix with impulses is creating some formidable sounds. Just awesome. And I've been very impressed with how large the community is. You can search for pretty much anything Helix and get an answer-thanks to folks like you!
