Routing HX Stomp into G-lab GSC4 split channels

Hi,

I've been running all pedals on my board through a G-lab GSC4  looper and midi controller. With the  GSC4 in split mode, i can run a 4 cable method utilizing my amps fx loop. I have not had any luck routing the HX Stomp into this set up. I've been trying to run separate mono outputs from the stomp into each section of the GSC4 splits.

It seems simple enough, but I dont know the Stomp well enough to know if Im setting up the signal paths correctly, or missing some settings somewhere. Has anyone tried this? Thanks.

Sadly I don't own the GSC4, but could you be more specific about your problem?

You mention you've been running your pedals through the GSC4 Looper, and at its most basic, that's exactly what you would do with the Stomp since it basically functions as a small pedal.

What is it you don't like about it when you try to do the four cable approach?

Hi thanks for responding,

The GSC4 split mode works very much like the hx stomp. The GSC4 has 6 ins and outs for pedals with the option of splitting them into two sections. When its in split mode the in\outs on the 3rd loop are used as the send to the front of the amp(out) and the amp fx loop return(in). The GSC4s output is sent to amps fx in.  split like this the GSC4s loop 1 and 2 go to the front of the amp and loops 4,5,6 through the fx loop.. It works great and this is how I have it set up. I've tried inserting the Stomp  to the signal flow of the GSC4s routing by using its own fx signal path which I wasnt able to make work. I've also tried inserting two un-merged, separate mono paths from the stomp into each section of the GSC4 and also wasnt able to make it work. I know its got to be something Im not doing right but cant to figure out what it is. I hope I explained that well enough, thanks again for the help.

The challenge for me is figuring out how you might want all your other products to run (which I assume you must have them or you'd ditch the GSC4 and just go pure Stomp). I'm also kind of confused about your description of loop 3. Are you saying the loop 3 return port is the port connected to your amp's fx loop send?  That's my assumption with the below. So I have an idea below of one way which I think will work based on what your device does. The trick, really, is to figure out how the Stomp works and then you'll be able to perfect your setup. Another challenge is if I misunderstand you at all on which holes are in and out holes the whole thing is shot. It might be better for you to learn how to do the four cable method just with the Stomp first, because once you get its wiring it's a lot easier to mesh it with other devices. Here's what I would start with based on my understanding of what you described you were already doing:

1. 1/4 out from GSC4 Loop 1 into main in left/mono on HX Stomp.

2. 1/4 out from HX Stomp FX send to GSC4 Loop 1 return.

(This section from creates the loop for all Stomp effects you before your pre amp)

3.  1/4 out from Loop 4 to HX Stomp FX Loop return left/mono.

4. 1/4 from Stomp main output left/mono to GSC4 Loop 4 return.

(This section creates the loop for all Stomp effects you want in your amp FX loop)

Stomp Signal: Start simple - use one of the factory presets with part of the description as "4CM." These presets are specifically designed for four cable setups and it will help you begin to visualize the signal chains of the Stomp and how they work. Just an FYI - you'll see on these chains an FX loop block. All effects BEFORE that block end up in sections 1/2 above, and all effects AFTER that block end up in 3/4 above.

I hope this will make progress getting there. Honestly, if the above doesn't work it's not because the devices are incompatible. In fact, I know they're compatible. It's just a matter of me knowing how your device works.

Try that approach first.  If you get any kind of noise at all from the Stomp effects we're on the right track. If it's dead silent then the Stomp is saying we screwed up.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks for your time on this. I will hook the two units up the way you’ve described. I hadn't tried that configuration. Am I right to assume the Stomp will be set up internally for the 4 cable method?

Thanks again.

Yes, Stomp's internal preset is a four cable. Hopefully I understood how your stuff routes.

I hooked everything up exactly the way you described and I'm happy to say that it worked brilliantly. I tested it out using the 4cm presets in the Stomp. Now I have the proper routing from the Stomp fx loop into my GSC4 fx loop. Exactly what I was hoping for.  Thank you very much for helping me figure that one out. I still have much to learn about how to go about creating the presets within the Stomp pedal and controlling them using midi commands from the  GSC4. At least now I know everything  is set up properly!

Cheers!
