Use Hx Stomp to change presets on other pedals using MIDI

I am looking to buy an HX Stomp to use with my analog pedal board. I would like to use the HX Stomp to change presets on my Strymon Bigsky so that when I change my tone on the HX Stomp I can also change to a different preset on my Strymon Bigsky.

I have tried to find this information on a few threads here, but couldn’t find this exact function.

I saw that the Stomp is able to send MIDI PC signal.

Would my plan be possible and if so, how would I need to set this?

Any ideas are appreciated

Since you can't specify which PC# Stomp sends - 01a = 000 ; 01b = 001 ; 01c = 002 etc, whichever Bigsky preset responds to those #s will be called. If you want a specific Bigsky preset to be called from multiple Stomp presets, it will need to be stored in multiple locations on the Bigsky.

Thanks for this explanation.

i’m planning to use the HX Stomp in a mode where I can move between banks (using a footswitch FS4/5 to bank up/down)

right now I’m not using more than 6-8 slots of my presets on the Bigsky for live sound, so I assume from what you said, I could duplicate and place the presets on my Bigsky so that the right one will be called when using any of the presets on HxStomp.

Am I correct with this understanding?

Yes. You might want to save the Bigsky preset that's being replaced to a different location before you copy it's replacement.

My stomp 2.71 doesn't send any midi info at all. Were you able to get the patch change to work? Aloha, Evan

So far I was not able to test this because I didn’t actually buy the Hx Stomp yet. Once I get it I will definitely get on to that.

Sorry, that I can’t be of any help for you..

From the manual - Global Settings MIDI/Tempo:

1
USB MIDI
When on, HX Stomp receives and transmits MIDI data via USB in the same capacity as its MIDI jacks.
2
MIDI PC Rx
Determines whether or HX Stomp responds to incoming MIDI program change (PC) messages from its MIDI IN port, via USB, or both MIDI and USB. If you don't want HX Stomp to respond to PC messages at all, set this to "Off."
3
MIDI PC Tx
Determines whether HX Stomp automatically sends MIDI program change (PC) messages from its MIDI OUT port, via USB, or both MIDI and USB when selecting presets.

Thank you Mathias and rd2rk. I'm big on manuals and hate to ask for help. I appreciate the settings page you sent but have already tried that rd2rk. Have you actually got this to work with a DAW or any outboard midi gear? It doesn't do anything with ver. 2.71, the thru works on the stomp, my midi messages from both my FCB 1010 and my XT live that I use to control the stomp both go right thru the stomp to cubase to control native, but cubase and midi ox say stomp isn't sending any midi out at all. Let me know rd2rk if you've used this feature successfully. Maybe I have a defective unit. Aloha, Evan

If the Stomp midi pc tx is set to transmit on usb and the midi out port, and midiox is set to receive from there, then you should be good to go. I don’t have a strymon, but I use this method to control Amplitube, TH3 and other vsts. Same thing, just sw vs hw. Recheck your globals. Try disabling midi thru via usb. I’m out of town for the weekend, so i can’t try it, or even say for sure if there’s a setting on the stomp to do that, but iirc, the floor is either or. I could be wrong. Sorry, back on Tuesday. Good luck!

in y’all’s opinion which one better blackstar live logic or Morningstar mc6? And why? I’m trying to connect hx stomp, big sky, and tempus via midi in which 2 switches can bank  up and down on stomp and big sky and 2 switches for A AND B patches on big sky?
