Helix Floor/LT "Controller Assign" flexibility

Hi everyone,

I'm considering snapping up a Helix LT or Floor and while the sounds they produce are very much my cup of tea (playing with Helix Native has been an eye-opener), I'm having a hard time getting used to the idea of the rather unflexible 8 snapshots or 4 snapshots + 4 stomps system. Can anyone shed some light on whether some of the workarounds I have in mind might work?

What I *really* want is the following:

Bottom row: 5 snapshots starting from BANK DN and ending on the bottom "D" footswitch

Top row: 5 fully assignable switches starting from BANK UP and ending on the top "D" footwitch - fully assignable means setting multiple parameters at once, not just turning stomps on and off

Preferably I'd also like to reassign the Mode button for a 6th assignable top row button.

Also, I'd like the bottom row to react to a second press of the already active snapshot button - I'd like to use this for a +3dB boost that toggles each time you press the footswitch for the currently active snapshot. See the Boss GT1000's "CUR NUM" assign or Kemper's morph function. From what I've read and heard so far, this is something that's not possible - or is it? :p

I'm hoping that I'll be able to realize all of this using the "Controller Assign" function (LT manual page 44).

So my questions:

1. Is reassigning the Bank UP/DN buttons even possible in the way I describe above? Adding a 5th snapshot on the bottom row and a 5th fully assignable footswitch on the top row? Or at least two fully assignable footswitches?

2. How do I make the top row A-B-C-D fully assignable? Do I need to set the bottom row to snapshots and the top row to stomp mode and then add controller assigns to each stomp switch? Do the controller assigns override the stomp on each switch or do they add additional funcitonality to the stomp mode switching already assigned to each footswitch?

3. The manual states that each preset may have up to 64 controller assignments - is this supposed to imply that controller assigns are saved on a per-preset basis rather than, say, a per-snapshot basis?

4. Right now I'm assuming that none of the above is possible - it looks like I'll end up using 4 snapshots + 4 stomps that each bypass a single effect and be stuck with that. Not ideal, but I guess I can learn to live with it. In this case - can I at least reassign Bank UP/DN and MODE to toggle (multiple) effect parameters?

I hope someone can make sense of all this. Thanks in advance!

1) No.

2) Stomps are assignable by default. You can BYPASS an effect AND use controllers at the same time. By setting MIN/MAX values to controlled parameters, consecutive presses will toggle.

3) You can assign a parameter to a Stomp or a Snapshot, but not both (except BYPASS).

4) See above.
