Is there a need to buy a Helix Native?

I want to purchase the Stomp and i saw that the Helix Native is just $99 for owners of any Helix/HX hardware. Tempting but do i really need one? Is there any advantages of having one instead of just downloading the HX Edit?

Helix Native operates as a plug-in to a DAW (audio recording program on a computer). The HX Stomp will achieve the same thing but it must be connected via USB in order to do so. Helix Native operates independently - no need for HX Stomp to be connected. Whether or not you ‘need’ Helix Native depends on whether or not you want to be tied to the Helix hardware every time you are recording.

 

HX Edit is not really relevant in this context. It’s just a computer based editor for the Helix hardware. It does not produce any audio - just passes command and control data back and forth between the computer and the Helix hardware.

If you do a lot of computer recording in a DAW, Helix Native sure does come in handy because its always ready to go. If you just need Helix in your computer from time to time, the hardware route may suit you just fine. Another thought .... if your audio interface (for your computer) is not a real good one, the input electronics on the Stomp may be superior and sound a bit better for guitar input.
