Laptop Audio out to Amp Via FBV Express MKII

Recommended Posts

I read that the FBV Express MKII can be used to connect your Windows 10 laptop/computer to your Line 6 amp (mine is the Spider Jam)., but the article didn't say how to set it up. I want to be able to use an online tab player, like those found at sites like 911Tabs and Songsterr, to play tracks out of the amp so I can mute the guitar parts and play them myself. I was using a regular 3.55mm audio cable in the headphones jack on the laptop, and the CD/MP3 jack on the Spider Jam, but it was a cheap cable and each end broke off inside the equipment, so that option is no more. When I connect the MKII to the amp with the cat5 cable, the controller powers up and works correctly with the channel presets installed on the amp. But, when I connect the laptop to the MKII, with a 2.0 USB cable, it switches to USB Mode and the channel presets no longer work (but I can still get sound from my guitar). Thinking I was golden, I loaded up a tab player, selected a song and clicked play. Nothing. No sound output at all. If I unplug the USB cable from the laptop, I get sound out of the internal speakers. Plug it back in and nothing. I've tried about a million different sound/driver/USB/ configurations and nothing worked. I'm starting it think it can't be done, and that the MKII is only capable of playing pre-loaded tone configs built into the Spider Jam (MKII and amp), or performing hands-free functions of 3rd party audio applications (MKII and laptop). Can anyone confirm/deny whether routing sound from the laptop, through the MKII, and out of the amp can be done?

Sorry, but the FBV Express MkII does not do that.  It connects to the computer only to communicate computer information (updates, or Spider Edit to adjust your patches).  To play computer audio though your amp, you will need to hook up patch cables from your computer's audio-out jacks to the 'MP3' input on the amp.
