kurtiguitar
I use HELIX Native recording with Cubase. The sounds for guitar are almost the same as on the HELIX floor unit, but for Bass, its is a nightmare. A patch sounds good on the floor unit, once loaded into Native is distorted and unusable. I use a Fender Jazz Bass and a Steinberg UR22MKII USB interface into a Mac. I have checked the input gain on the interface, no red lights, so it should be all good, but it isn't. Has anyone had a similar issue? BTW, as I said, this only happens with the Bass patches (presets or self created). I have to fall back to Cubase Bass Amp Rack (which is not sooo bad). Thanks for any answer. Cheers Kurt
soundog
Hmmmm. It's easy to overdrive bass in the digital domain. Its possible your metering is not detecting (or reacting to) your really low frequencies. Experiment with dialing down the input on the Steinberg further and see if that helps. You can also play around with a high pass filter (70 Hz or thereabouts) and/or light compression before Native. Also (of course) try turning your amp gain down (and the master volume up to compensate).
joelhjones117
I, too, am experiencing a lot of unusably distorted tones trying to use almost any Bass amp patch in Helix Native. The Ampeg SVT-4 PRO model is fair, but all others mostly are just unusably distorted. I can fight my way with the controls, such as reducing Drive, or playing with the cabs and mics to reduce the distortion, but I usually end up with really low levels and the results still don't sound right and worth the effort. I don't have any h/w Helix unit to compare, but I haven't had similar issues using Guitar patches with either a guitar or bass instrument. Results are as expected using other brand Bass amp models, such as NI Guitar Rig 5 or those provided with Logic X Pro 10.6.1. I'm using the latest HX Native v3.01, macOS Catalina, Presonus Quantum 2626 interface. It seems as if something is broken somewhere in the gain structure. I hope Line 6 Moderators may consider this matter worthy of attention and having the developers address as needed.
soundog
Did you experiment with a high pass filter with a sharp rolloff, (12 or 24 dB/octave) placed before Native? Also, experiment with reducing your audio interface's input level.
