Casafa
Good morning to all So i've recently purchased a pod hd500x. I do not understand anything about the connectivity of my HD500x. The manual is not clear AT ALL, for a total noob like me regarding connectivity, and all I need to do is to get the song of my guitar amplified by my computer's speakers, as I can hear it after i've recorded something. For now, I've used the 4 cables technic into my Peavey Valveking 100 and using my laney2x12. My computer assigned the hd500x as the sound card, my speakers (http://www.materiel.net/haut-parleurs/logitech-speaker-system-z323-72543.html) are connected to my computer, so what do I need to do to make the work done ? Do I need to plug the speakers directly into the pod ? With what cables, and where on the pod? This is driving me incredibly MAD. I've searched the whole internet, maybe I don't know what are the good keys words to use or if I'm incredibly stupid, but I haven't found anything to make me understand how all of this work. Like I already said above, I'm a complete noob in these matters, and I'm this close to burn the whole planet.Thank you in advance for your help, wishing you a nice day. PS : Sorry for the unperfect English.
BigChas52
There are a couple of ways: 1. Plug the speakers into the pod. You can either use the headphone jack, or use the 1/4" outputs. Either way you'll need an adapter. 2. Plug connect the HD500 to your computer's AUX input. Make sure that you make your computer's sound card the default sound device. As above, you can either use the headphone jack, or the 1/4" outs. As above, you'll need an adapter. The easiest way would be to use 1/8" to 1/4" stereo adapter and use the headphone jack. Casafa
Hey BigChase, Thank you very much for your quick answer. What would be the best way to plug it and have the best quality of sound ? If there is even a difference between these two solutions ? And could you please tell me what adaptator is needed for the second solution ? The same as the first ? Thank you
ColonelForbin
Try this: 1.) plug the (L) HD500 1/4" out into the FX return on your Valveking. 2A.) option#1 - plug the HD500 XLR outs into your speakers. If needed get some RCA to XLR cable adapters. 2B.) option#2: - plug a 1/4" headphone jack on HD500 to cable adapter to your speakers 3.) set the HD500 output mode to "studio direct". 4.) plug your guitar into the HD500 5.) plug the USB from the HD500 into your computer As you noted, the HD500 must be set as the soundcard to the computer. At this point, no audio output should be coming from the computer, the playback for recordings will be sent out from the HD500 to the Valveking and the speakers. The master volume on the HD500 controls the speaker volume / playback volume. It does not impact the recording signal level. To increase or decrease the recording level, use the + or - dB boost / cut in the MIXER portion of the HD500 signal chain (the block after the amp model). BigChas52
Either would sound about the same. You need an adapter to go from mono 1/4" jacks to stereo 1/8" you might have to search the internet a bit, or go to a local electronics store for a solution.
Casafa
Well, I think that it got everything I needed to know. As soon as I get some adapters, I'll remember to post a feedback here. Can't thank you enough BigChas & Colonel Forbin ! :D Cheers !
ColonelForbin
The key is that when the HD is set as the soundcard, all the computer audio is routed out through it, whether it's iTunes, playback from recording, internet audio, etc. As a result, you may end wanting to hear the output from the Valveking while you are playing your actualy parts, vs. through stereo speakers when listening to recording playback.
