I'm trying to set it up so that Reaper controls preset changes and the Helix controls transport controls. I had this same setup with an HD500x and it worked just fine. I set up the the preset changes and it worked fine. Then I set up the Helix to control Reaper's transport functions and it worked fine. Except then the preset changes didn't work. While trying to fix that, the transport controls stopped working. A few times I was able to get transport controls to work but usually glitchy, like hitting play would basically repeat a .25 second loop (no I did not have anything set to loop) or the play rate would slow each time I hit play. The play rate issue started happening whether I hit a switch on the Helix or clicked play within Reaper or just hit the space bar. I checked the actions list in Reaper and there weren't any weird keys or other actions mapped to any of the transport actions. I've tried just about every combination of settings in the global menu. I've also tried MIDI over USB as well as with actual 5 pin MIDI cables. I'm not sure where to go from here. I'm assuming it's Reaper since clicking play/hitting space also produces wonk and the Helix is brand new. Has anyone here successfully controlled presets and transport controls with Reaper and the Helix? rd2rk Posted March 23, 2021 Share Posted March 23, 2021 I've switched presets from Reaper. I've controlled the Reaper Transport from Helix. Unless you have all of the Helix presets that you use also configured to control the Transport, whenever you switch presets to one that isn't also configured to control the transport, you'll lose those functions. In Global Settings>MIDI/Tap, MIDI PC RECEIVE has to be ON and if you're using USB, MIDI OVER USB needs to be enabled. 5-pin MIDI ports are always enabled by default. Reaper needs to be sending to Helix on the BASE Channel. As for your weird speed problem, the only thing I can think of is to make sure you're using the latest version of Reaper. I have ensured settings are correct in Global Settings, as well. I have Reaper 6.25 as of now. Just updated the other day. I might try uninstalling and reinstalling Reaper. I'll try the Cockos forum. cgmorrison89 Posted March 23, 2021 Author Share Posted March 23, 2021 So I unassigned all the MIDI CCs that were mapped to actions in Reaper and now it changes presets on the Helix just fine.
