Screen/footswitch LEDs not updating in preset mode when changing presets.

Hi everyone,

I tried to search the forum for this question but couldn't see anything relevant, but I could have been searching for the wrong terms so didn't know how to succinctly describe the issue, so apologies if this has been answered.

I've noticed the last couple of days that my HxStomp is exhibiting some weird behaviour. I've got the firmware 3.11.0 installed on it and I'm using the preset mode, as I have 36A as my acoustic/clean tone, 36B as the rhythm tone, and 36C as the lead tone.

I've noticed that sometimes when I press a footswitch to change presets (say, change from 36B to 36C), the LED and screen don't update on the HxStomp. I can hear that it has loaded the correct preset (36C), but the LED is still on the middle footswitch, 36B, as well as the screen still saying I am on the 36B preset.

When this happens I sometimes see if changing to scroll mode or stomp mode fixes it, and this doesn't seem to work, however this time the screen updates but the LED does not. If I get it into stomp mode and then activate the tuner, the tuner simply doesn't recognise any input it seems, the screen shows no note and the footswitches don't light up to indicate in or out of tune.

A power cycle fixes the issue, but ideally I don't want to have to power cycle in the middle of a gig. Sometimes this issue happens almost immediately, sometimes the stomp has been on for about an hour and then the issue occurs.

What is the solution?

Perform a complete backup.

Perform a Factory reset:

Helix/Rack/LT/FX/Stomp Reset Procedures and Troubleshooting Tricks - HELIX/HX - Line 6 Community

If that doesn't work, using the L6 Updater, re-flash the FW. FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS!

Anything else I should know?

Yes. We STRONGLY recommend performing a factory reset AFTER UPDATING your Helix/HX firmware to 3.11 and THEN RESTORING YOUR BACKUP. (Backing up is part of the update process). Here's how to perform a factory reset. IMPORTANT: MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A BACKUP FIRST, AS A FACTORY RESET WILL ERASE ALL YOUR WORK!

  • Helix Floor/LT: While holding footswitches 9 & 10 (bottom row, 2 middle switches), turn on Helix Floor/LT
  • Helix Rack: While holding knobs 5 & 6 (2 furthest right knobs below the screen), turn on Helix Rack
  • HX Effects: While holding footswitches 6 & TAP (2 farthest right switches on the bottom row), turn on HX Effects
  • HX Stomp: While holding footswitches 2 & 3, turn on HX Stomp
  • HX Stomp XL: While holding footswitches C & D, turn on HX Stomp

If that doesn't work, contact support.

Thank you,

Just performed a full backup and factory reset, then restored the backup, and it all seems to be fine now.

For anyone who may stumble across this in the future, before I did the reset and backup I noticed that what was causing the bug was when I wasn't quite pushing the stomp switches fully down (Such as when my foot would slip off etc). However after the reset and backup, this no longer appears to cause the bug.

EDIT: Never mind, it's still happening and not even when I'm touching the thing, hasn't even been on for an hour. Going to contact support.
