New user of the PC 112

Hello!  I just got my Powercab 112 yesterday.  This is my first Line 6 product.  I have been researching this forum and others to gather all the tips I can.  So far, I am not very pleased with the tones.  But, I have 30 days to figure this out before having to return it to Sweetwater.  After a few hours with it yesterday, it seems to me, it only sounds good cranked up to 9-10.  Which should suffice in a  band mix.  But man, at home, I really do not want to solo jam at those volumes.

I have my GT-1000 set at line level professional +4dB and the master volume maxed.   The PC input level light is in the yellow.  Is anyone able to get good rich, creamy tones at lower volumes with the PC?  I tried the FRFR, greenback and creamback speakers (GT-1000 cabs, IRs off) so far.  When I use my HR 108, I am able to play at lower volumes but of course I don't get the feel of an amp in the room.  Any suggestions on how to enjoy the PC at lower volumes would be more than welcomed.  The feeling when you just spent over $600 on something that isn't working out is depressing.

Define "lower volumes". 50db? 70db?

85db is where the Fletcher-Munson curve starts to flatten out.

It's where my 15w/112 tube amp STARTS to sound good.

It's also where my upstairs neighbors start banging on the floor.

The best solution I've found for low volume practice is quality studio monitors.

The best solution for good, creamy AITR sound is high volume.

All that said, I'm currently getting pleasing tones out of my Catalyst 100 (dry) linked by XLR/with cab emulation to my Helix for stereo FX thru my PC212+ at 70-80db.

W/D/W.

That works for daytime, neighbors haven't called the cops.

At night I use my Waza Air headphones.

FWIW - I started with a PC112+ and quickly traded up to the PC212+. YMMV.

I use the analog input of my PC112+ for my Boss GT-1000. Does anyone know if the analog input signal automatically converted to digital by the PC112+ in FRFR mode. Strange question you say, but I think (hope I'm wrong) the PC112+ converts any analog signal to digital mode especially for use with speaker simulations and IR, and brings it back to analog mode to amplify it to the 12 inches speaker. So I wonder if in FRFR mode we avoid any analog/digital/analog conversion for an analog input.

I'm pretty sure that the incoming signal from the analog inputs is always converted.

You can ask L6 support for confirmation, but good luck getting an answer. The inner workings of the Powercabs are a mystery, even to L6.

If you're using a Helix with L6 Link that conversion is avoided.

In your case, the conversion takes <>2ms. If you can FEEL that OR hear a difference in tone, you're a lot more sensitive than me!

Of course, you're already using a digital MFX, so there's <>2ms for that conversion, and if you're using it's FX Loops there's another <>2ms for each of those, and if you've got digital FX in those FX Loops there's another <>2ms for each of those, and a wireless adds another <>2ms...

I don't begin to FEEL latency until it's >10ms. RIAA research (? - I can't find the link to the research paper just now) puts 10ms as average for humans. YMMV.

In theory, there's no difference in tone caused by AD/DA conversions. There's a video on YT where a real science-y guy proves that OBJECTIVELY with oscilloscopes and other hi-tech stuff. SUBJECTIVELY, YMMV.
