ross_gerry
Hi all… I need some help! I’ve got a helix rack, which I’ve been using for a few years now along with a tube amp. I’ve recently picked up a diezel vh4 so have started using the helix to channel switch using the amp tones rather than the modelling in the helix. I also have my rack connected via usb to my laptop to run some midi stuff via ableton etc. I’ve noticed some really bad hum which I’ve narrowed down to the usb. I’ve done a lot of reading about ground loops but I’m fairly sure that isn’t my problem. If I have the usb cable plugged into the helix, even without the other end connected to anything at all, it results in noise. If I connect it to my laptop it doesn’t get worse. If I unplug the usb from the helix the sound stops… so I’m fairly sure this isn’t a ground loop as the noise starts without the other end of the usb even being plugged into anything? If I “jiggle” the USB port a little bit that impacts how loud the sound is. Is it likely I just have a dodgy USB port? Or is there anything else I should check? Can supply videos if it’s easier
