cassius98
hi im fairly new to the line 6 and already tried troubleshooting this by reading most of the posts but i dont know if this stems from my usb cable or what but heres the rundown on what happened; - tried using hx edit to update everything great suddenly helix floor is stuck on boot failure - then tried the line 6 updater (and heres where the main problem arises) - everytime i try to update (even tried the manual flash file) it keeps saying my firmware update failed but when i press continue i see that my helix is still connected to the computer so i dont know if this is a usb problem or if i bricked my helix but im really scratching my head at what to do here. and as an extra sidenote everytime i turn on the helix right before it goes back to update failed entered update mode text pops up i can see that my helix is booting on 3.5 already. i dont know if this means that it already updated the first part and just waiting for the hx edit part to fully install it buy im really stuck here. SaschaFranck
Did you boot into safe/update mode before trying to update?

Help us to help you! Re: “tried using hx edit to update everything great suddenly helix floor is stuck on boot failure”. The Release Notes for v3.50 firmware fully documents the “Boot Failure” issue - it’s a known part of the update of the Core system. You did read and precisely follow the information provided in the notes about installation, didn’t you? Then you mention - “tried the line 6 updater (and heres where the main problem arises)”. To use the Updater you should disconnect the USB cable from your unit and reboot it into “Safe Mode”, then ensure that HX Edit is not running in the background, if it is shut it down. Then reconnect the USB and launch the Line 6 Updater Utility to reinstall the firmware. Full instructions for how to recover from a failed update are given here: Hope this helps/makes sense. HIYA! sorry it didnt make sense but i finally fixed it and yes i already that threads method and IT WORKED! (kinda) see i was using this USB cable for a long time now and when it kept failing i kinda just threw it against a wall and started shouting profanitys at it. So after i cooled down i went to my neighbor's and asked if he had a printer cable i could borrow and he did so i tried it again and it worked. so long story short test your USB's at least 5 times before updating. (mines in the trash now).

Hi, Ah, the dreaded USB voodoo - it can catch out the unwary, especially when some folks think, “Well, it worked with my…” (insert whatever here) doesn’t necessarily mean it will function for data transfer in to your Helix device. This is such a common occurrence that if you click on the black dot, containing a white circle and question mark in the lower right of this screen, you can then see the Help Centre pop up window. Scroll down to reveal the “Common Product FAQ” which has a section named “USB Connection Issues”. This gives the usual troubleshooting routines to try. Glad to know that you have managed to successfully update your unit -enjoy!
SaschaFranck
That's precisely why I have collected a bunch of "granted to work, regardless what I throw at them" USB cables over the years. And fwiw, given how many of them I owned, the percentage of really well working ones is astonishingly small. And it's not because I only bought cheap stuff. In fact, one pretty much horribly expensive cable from Belkin never worked properly, even went as far as sending it back, just to find out the replacement wouldn't properly work, either. Fine for occasional printer connections, miserably failing with interfaces and harddrives.
