dainsj
I am considering purchasing an HX Effects to replace all my stomp boxes, but first want to be sure I can mimic the 5 cable method I use today. All the material I've seen so far talks about 4 OR 7 Cable method, but nothing regarding hookups in between. My current setup is: Cables 1 &2: Guitar > front of amp effects > Mesa Mark IV instrument input. Cable 3: Mark IV Effects send into Boss CE-3 (has Mono input) > CE3 L & R out into L& R in of next stereo modulation effect and so on.... Cable 4: Left output of last stereo effect out into Mark IV Effects return. Cable 5: Right output of last stereo modulation effect into Effects Return of a 2nd amp, a Mesa Satellite 60. Using this method, the pre-amp of the Mark IV (through the modulation effects) is driving only the power amp of the Satellite 60 through cable 5, and I get all of the Mark IV's native overdriven tones in both amps. I'd like to do the same using the HX Effects, and think it may have this routing flexibility, but it's hard to tell with what is available (or what I've found so far). Anyone have experience tinkering with something like this, or know enough about the unit to say it can be done?
bobcoss
Yes. You can do that with the HX Effects. I've done it with various amps and it's quite fun. You might have some ground loop issues but there are various solutions for that.
dainsj
Thanks! In between my post and reading your reply I kind of figured out it would be possible, but good to hear from someone who has actually tried it. I am finding that you can actually learn more details about topics like this one if you poke around the plethora of Helix videos.
