askorp
Hi everyone. I got a noise problem with my hx stomp and it's driving me crazy. I have attached an image so you can see my signal chain. The stomp is connected to my physical amp a blackstar ht club 50. I am using the clean channel of my physical amp. Now the problem is when i enable the pre amp block of the signal chain. There is a terrible hiss sound, and it's quite loud:( It's driving me nuts and i have no idea how to solve this. Unplugging the usb cable didn't help at all. Any ideas? Thanks in advance
silverhead
If I understand correctly you are connecting the Stomp Output to the Guitar Input of your amp, which is the preamp section of your amp (even if it is the Clean channel). When you turn on the preamp in your Stomp preset you are then routing your signal through two preamps. This will rarely sound good and it’s probably the cause of the noise. If your amp has an FX Loop, try routing the Stomp output to the Return input of your amp. This bypasses your amp’s preamp section and allows you to use only the power amp and cab section of your physical amp. For best and most flexible results consider using the 4-cable method (4CM) with Stomp presets designed accordingly.
askorp
Thanks for your reply. I am using the 4cm. I checked my wiring and everything is connected according to the manual instructions.
silverhead
It’s a bit hard to see but I think the picture you attached of the Stomp preset shows both the preamp block and the FX Loop block active. That means the signal is, indeed, passing through both preamps. In your Stomp preset you should have only one of those blocks active when using 4CM. If you want to use the preset’s preamp turn the FX Loop off. When you want to use your physical amp’s preamp turn the preset’s preamp off and the FX Loop on. silverhead
Great. Glad it’s working now. The bit about the on/off state of the blocks is what I meant in my first response: “consider using the 4-cable method (4CM) with Stomp presets designed accordingly.” Also note that in 4CM you should not use a cab block in your Stomp preset for the same reason - you don’t want cabs in serial. Could you elaboare please? I am still not very familiar with the stomp:)
silverhead
By ‘cabs in serial’ I mean that the signal chain delivers the output signal from one cab to the input of another cab. In your case, using 4CM and your physical amp, you are always using the speaker/cab of your physical amp. That is ‘the input of another cab’, and using it is an unavoidable feature of 4CM. That means that your signal chain should not contain any modeled cab which delivers ‘the output signal of one cab’.
