Catalyst amps and karafun via usb

Strange topic - I am trying to use my Catalyst amp to work my karaoke (karafun version 2) through the USB hooked up to my laptop.   The program will only work using their web application and not the one installed on my laptop. It doesn't work on the desktop either.  Is this a limitation with the amp?  Has anyone else had this unusual problem?

If the Catalyst is configured in your program as the ASIO Device and your Karaoke program sends an audio signal on USB 1/2, then it should work fine.

The audio signal from the web app is using Windows' sound card and if you have the Catalyst configured as the Playback Device in Windows Sound Panel it will work.

The Windows Playback Device transmits streaming audio from the web, the ASIO device transmits audio from applications running in Windows, be that a DAW, a plugin Host or, in this case. your Karaoke app.

These are two separate functions.

My laptop does not have ASIO.

Go to the L6 website>Downloads and in the dropdowns select Catalyst|Drivers|Windows version.

The latest version is 1.97.0.2. for all Catalyst versions and Windows 10 and 11.

Download and install. The app should now see ASIO as an Audio Device option.

OK, I went to the KF site and signed up, downloaded and installed the program.

It doesn't use ASIO.

In Windows Sound Panel I set Catalyst as the Default Playback device.

I started the app, logged in and selected the first song (Tennessee Whiskey).

I double clicked on it and it started playing through my Catalyst.

In Windows Sound Panel, under Playback, is Catalyst selected as your DEFAULT Playback Device?

I would DL the ASIO Driver just because sooner or later you'll want to use it for an app that requires it and then you'll be back here wondering why it doesn't work. IMO it should be included in the Catalyst Edit installation (and the Powewrcab installation) just as the related driver is installed with every Helix device, but hey, who am I? Oh, right I'm one of the guys who answers people when they want to know why the AI functions of those devices don't work.

Yes, check Windows Sound Panel, that's your solution with that app.

And you're right - who are you?   One of the most helpful and knowledgeable people I know, if these posts are any indication.   Thanks again.  Unfortunately, even with doinig the sound panel adjustment it still doesn't work in the app mode.  Only on the web.

Do this TEST:

Windows Sound Panel>Playback - Set Speakers/Catalyst as Default Sound Device - Will have Green Checkmark

Right click on Catalyst, click TEST - do you hear the test tone from the Catalyst?

If NO, check your USB cable.

I tried the configuration two ways:

My computer soundcard (connected to studio monitors) as Windows Default Playback Device

KF>Edit>Preferences>Audio>Audio Configuration>Audio Output = Catalyst 100

and

Catalyst 100 as Windows Default Playback Device

KF>Edit>Preferences>Audio>Audio Configuration>Audio Output = Default Sound Device

Both configurations worked fine getting the sound to the Catalyst.

If it's still not working for you after the TEST I described above I have no clue what's wrong.

Just made an interesting discovery - when I plug in a 3.5mm male into the laptop headphone jack and the other into the amp aux I can use the app.   As soon as I try the usb cable, it registers as Catalyst 100 but the app won't work.   Strange.   Could the usb connector be somehow defective?  I have two of them.   I've noticed that the end that plugs into the amp does not plug all the way in.   Is this normal or should it fit snugly?

If setting Catalyst as the Windows Default Playback Device and playing the test tone gets the test tone through the Catalyst, then the USB cable is fine, and setting the App's Audio Out to the Default Sound Device should work.

IDK what the problem is, it works whatever way I set it up in my system but whatever, you've got a solution. Rock on!
