tmaestro
I'm trying to use the speakers on my MacBook. I can load the Metallurgy apps as plug ins in GarageBand and hear them, but there's no sound output from them as standalone apps. I can see the meters bouncing as they should, so the input seems to be there. I've turned off the apps' tuner mute. I have the MacBook Air speakers selected as outputs in the "Audio Midi Setup" settings. The three Metallurgy apps are approved/enabled in Settings -> Privacy & Security -> Microphone. I'm using a Scarlet 2i2 and an M1 MacBook on MacOS Ventura. Is there anything else I can check to see why I can't hear the standalone apps through my laptop speakers? silverhead
I suspect the apps are directing their audio output over USB to your Scarlett audio interface. To test that, try connecting headphones to your Scarlett. I'm not a Mac guy but from my readings here I think you can create an aggregate device on your Mac to be able to use one audio device as input (Scarlett) and a different audio device as output (your Mac speakers). tmaestro
Plugging headphones into the interface does work, so does that mean the Metallurgy stand alone apps can only output audio through the same audio device they receive input from? The Metallurgy settings let me select one "Audio Device" and offers selections for both input and output from/to that one device. Maybe that's the limitation. silverhead
That’s certainly a limitation of the ASIO protocol, which Line 6 uses. It requires that the same device be used for both audio input and output. On Windows machines there are attempted workarounds using pseudo-ASIO protocols like ASIO4ALL which works for some but is known to cause problems in many (most?) cases. As I said I’m not a Mac guy but their Core Audio technology seems to permit something called an Aggregate Device. I don’t know if the Metallurgy apps recognize it. Hopefully a Mac person can help you out here.
tmaestro
Well that certainly worked! The Aggregate Device concept is the ticket. I really appreciate the help, thank you so much!
