"Toggling" through multiple MIDI CC#s?

Hi all - If I am not mistaken, the Helix limitation is ONE MIDI setting, or series of MIDI settings, per switch/instant/exp pedal, per preset. Within that preset, you can't change any of the switch/instant/exp pedal MIDI values assigned to that switch/instant/exp pedal on the fly. (Technically, I believe you can assign multiple MIDI settings to a single footswitch, so they all fire when the FS is pressed, but that is not what I hope to accomplish)

What I am trying to do is, within the same preset, change via MIDI, the delay preset on my Strymon Timeline. Example: the song starts out using Strymon Timeline preset #51, but switches mid song to delay preset #55, for example. Only way I see right now is to either dedicate another Helix footswitch to call the second delay (ugh! I need the footswitch for other uses) or go to a different Helix Preset altogether. Double ugh!

Ideally, I'd like to press the footswitch to call up setting #51, then click it again to call up #55, and maybe even click again and call setting #54. One more click and we'd be back to setting # 51.

Comments welcome.

Thanks,

Tc

There is literally a CCToggle command in Command Center?!

If you want a PC (program change) toggle try this:

Use snapshots with Instant BankPC Command:

Switch to Snapshot 1,  go to Command Center and set Instant BankPC Command Program to #51, then switch to Snapshot 2, change BankPC Program to #55.

Then you can setup a Footswitch (i.e. FS1) to change the Snapshots:

Switch to Snapshot 1,  go to Command Center and set Footswitch 1 Snapshot Command Press to Snap 2, then switch to Snapshot 2, change Snapshot Command Press to Snap 1.

Now Footswitch 1 toggles between MIDI Program #51 and #55.

You can then choose the bypass behavior of the blocks to not be affected by Snapshot switching if you want (press Action -> Snapshot Bypass On/Off).

This obviously works with more than two MIDI programs or CCs, too.

Thanks Schmalle - but having a problem with changing between snapshots using FS1.

The use of the Instant function is working fine, thanks for that tip. As I am set up, Snap1 has the first value I need, Snap2 has the second value, and if I manually choose a snapshot the Timeline is changing accordingly. Perfect.

So now trying to implement a footswitch to "toggle" between Snap1 and Snap 2. In Snap 1, going to the command center, I have selected FS1. I have moved the option selection to show Command -> HX Snpsht. First thing I notice though is that the Customize option is greyed out, not active...Hmmm... Anyway:

Command -> HX Snpsht.

Behavior -> Press/Release

Press -> SNAPSHOT 2

Release -> None.

Testing just this much, pressing footswitch1 does nothing. It has no display, does not change anything.

Just to test more, I then manually open up SNAP 2, and set FS1 to now go back to SNAPSHOT 1 (Press->SNAPSHOT 1)

I save all that, which brings the screen back into to Stomp mode. FS1 shows no display, just blank. Pressing it does nothing.

So for whatever reason, I am unable to set FS1 to be my toggle to move to SNAP 2. I'm concerned that Helix doesn't allow me to "customize" FS1 in HX Snpshot mode. That seems like a clue...

Any ideas?

The greyed out "customize" is normal for snapshot use.

I can't see why this doesn't work for you - the toggle programming should be as easy as this:

  • Switch to Snapshot Mode and make sure you're on Snapshot 1.
  • Switch to Footswitch Mode.
  • Go to Command Center.
  • Set FS1 to Snpsht, Pres/Release, SNAP2, None.
  • Press FS1.
  • Change "Press" to SNAP 1.
  • Press FS1 - it should toggle "Press" between SNAP1 and SNAP2 now.

When you leave Command Center and are back it Footswitch Mode it should now display the Snapshot symbol for FS1.

Thanks - Still didn't work - but I figured it out. FS1 in the command center mode is actually the Bank Up footswitch! So what we think of FS1 on actual board is actually FS2 to the command center. So, no problem, I set FS2 to cycle through Snap1, 2, 3, 4 and back to 1. Works like a charm!

Thanks for your time, REALLY appreciated!
