Powercab 212 use frfr and speaker mode on left and right

Hi all. I’ve just upgraded from a PowerCab 112 plus to the 212.

Most of the time, I’ll just be using the 212 in speaker mode with my Helix and am looking forward to mixing speakers etc.

However one of my main reasons is that I want to run a normal guitar one one speaker (let’s assume panned hard left, using a speaker model in the PowerCab), and then run the output from my guitar synth pedal into the second speaker. I feed my guitar synth into Return 1 on the Helix and process it on its own path in the preset.

So what I really want is to be able to run a speaker simulation on one speaker, and FRFR on the other, but it doesn’t seem you can do that.  The closest seems to be run one speaker in Natural mode, but then the tweeter is deactivated which is not great for synth.

Of course I go could go full FRFR and use an amp+cab block in the helix for the guitar part, but I’ve tried this on my 112 and it’s really hard to get the same guitar sound through that route as via the speaker route, and the gain staging is totally different to the other presets so I find it hard to make the preset sit comfortably in a live situation. Ended up putting +10db gain blocks here and there to try and level things out.

is there anyway to get frfr on one and speaker mode on the other? I use solely and AES/EBU cable.  Other than writing some custom firmware to activate the tweeter….

any ideas gratefully received!

thanks

I don't see any way to do this.

There's another guy on here who has a PC112+ and a plain PC112. Seems like that would be perfect for your situation.

Maybe you can trade? Or, if you got your PC212+ new at a reputable store maybe you can work a trade there?

HI Thanks @rd2rk.  Nope, bought second hand (at appropriate discount), I think is going to be fine just using with the Natural Speaker Mode, I think just having separate signal paths / speaker for the guitar and synth parts will enough of a difference. Two cabs would be a massive pain for rehearsals to be honest, and I only use the synth on a handful of songs at the moment so not worth building the whole setup around that.  Live, if needed, I can always route the synth to FOH as well to get to those high frequencies.

Shame that with modern (digital) amps I can't just open it up and install a physical  'tweeter on/off' switch :)
