Why is my Line 6 Amplifi 150 EXTREMELY quiet unless I use a distortion pedal?

I recently started getting back into guitar after a 20 year hiatus. I picked up an old ESP EX-250 on Craigslist and a Line 6 Amplifi 150. I can barely hear any clean tones through the amp, even at full volume. Overdrive tones/presets offer a little more volume, but very little distortion sound. I also have a Boss Metal Zone MT-2 pedal. If I use this, I can achieve what sounds like a reasonable distortion sound from the amp (and it's loud).

HOWEVER, I also have an old Peavey 15 watt amp I found in the basement of my apartment building, and the clean and overdrive tones sound fine, when played without the pedal.

Can anyone tell me what's going on with my Line 6?

Did you buy the Amplifi amp used or brand new? If used, did you get a chance to test it out beforehand? In other words, had it been working fine for you and this low volume behaviour is new to you, or did you perhaps buy an amp that is faulty? If the latter it’s likely a hardware fault that will need repair.

You can try to resurrect it by reinstalling the firmware.
