Is anyone out there using a POD Go with a 12-string electric, am struggling to make it work ?

I’m not talking about getting a faux 12-string sound, but using an actual 12-string electric with it, like a Rickenbacker or, in my case, a DanElectro.

 

I have come up with presets that work well with my 6-string guitars and even my bass, but I am having trouble coming up with anything that gives me the jangly Beatles/Byrds/REM sound I am looking for with the 12.

 

I have tried various amp models (Vox of course, Fender, JC120 and even Marshall which surprisingly is what Roger McGuinn used when he was playing through the old POD) and compressor models and cabinets and mics and in the eight months I have had my POD Go, I have not come up with anything that pleases me.

So I’m tossing it out here to see if anyone is successfully using a POD Go with an electric 12 to get jangly sounds, and if so what settings are you using to give me at least a more dialed-in starting point for experimentation.

Any specific example of guitar sound?  Or, what isn't 'jangly' with the sound you're getting?  I don't know what jangly means in terms of electric guitar sound...  Odds are the 3 bands you've quoted aren't using the same gear or have the same sound..

 

Besides, every guitar (pick ups) has specific sound, even strings to a lower extent, but especially if you're after the 'twingy' sparkly sound new strings sound like..  Older strings tend to sound more 'dead'.  So while you can tune Go to sound like whatever, if the tone you're starting with is very different, it'll be much more challenging or impossible..

The best way to get a specific sound should be to identify a precise song, hopefully popular song, and get the exact rig (amp & pedals) used for that song, or at least maybe the album.  Then start from there. 

 

Unfortunately, imho, the mic & mic placement plays a crucial role in end tone, and getting these right is the more difficult part about using Pod Go IMHO.  But, you should be able to find a decent mic especially if you can find the correct amp.  (just when you're trying to wrap your head around amp plus mic gets, not easy!!)

I'm not sure if my reply went through the first time ... it gave me a message that the post would have to be moderated then logged me out of the forum which was strange ... if it did the mods can delete one.

 

I'm looking for the sound of Roger McGuinn with The Byrds and George Harrison with The Beatles on "If I Needed Someone," knowing that I'm not going to get all the way there because they had Rickenbackers and I have a DanElectro. (I have a Rickenbacker, just not a 12.)

 

Strings also aren't an issue because I use flatwounds, which are the string of choice for electric 12 players seeking that '60s vibe, and you generally leave them on for years. I don't want new string shimmer.

 

I had a setup of the guitar into a Janglebox compressor with the treble boost enabled, into a cheap Donner chorus set very low, into an EP Booster set very low, into a Tech 21 Liverpool pedal that simulates an AC30 Top Boost into Alnico Blue speakers, set clean, then to the board. It's absolutely perfect.

 

However, I'm wanting to go away from a pedalboard to use the POD Go exclusively live, and nothing I've tried has come up with the sparkle of that other setting. And I know sparkle is a nebulous word; go listen to "Turn, Turn, Turn," "Mr. Tambourine Man" and "Feel A Whole Lot Better," that's what I'm trying to get.

 

Perhaps I am asking the POD Go to do something outside its wheelhouse, given that I'm not seeking any remotely modern sounds or anything gainy out of this guitar?
