How to use Marshall Amp w/o Preamp (MG100HDFX)

Hi there, total newbie here so apologize for the potentially stupid question.  At the rehearsal studio we use they have a MG100HDFX head unit that I'm trying to use with my new Helix.  I have the tones set up (still a work in progress) in the Helix and want to just use the Marshall as an AMP/CAB (no preamp).  My understanding is I'm supposed to use the FX Return.  I tried this last night and got no sound.  Before I used to just plug into the guitar input and turn off all the pre-amp effects but to me sounds like crap.  What we did last night after the FX return didn't work is plug into the CD in (using Line level in the Global settings).  Sounded pretty good, but probably not the right way to use it? Any help would be appreciated!

I see no problem using the CD input.

That Marshall has an FX LOOP MIX knob on the front panel that you need to set all the way to WET in order to use the fx return as power amp input.

I wouldn't be shocked if both the return and the CD input sound the same, try it!

Have fun!
