DKBos
I use a Helix LT direct through PA with in ear monitors for performance in H.O.W. setting. I am looking for a practice rig at home. I have been using good headphones but like to practice standing and the headphones annoy me. I sold my tube amp to pay for the Helix and really miss the amp in the room sound and feel, makes me want to play more. I use a lot of stereo effects and have a couple patches that have that big ethereal sound that one amp would not do. I have tried powered stereo monitors like you would use for a computer and the sound is too thin and lacks the amp in the room feel. Looking to "feel" the music as well. Need a big speaker to move air for that. Is getting a pair of cx60's the solution? Are the cx100's a better option or do they just get louder? Anybody here using this set up? rd2rk
The CX 100 has standard MIDI. The 60 requires a MIDI Host - another widget to deal with. You don't think you need MIDI now, but you'll thank me later. The LT has the MIDI capability needed for full control of your amps. I have the full Helix Floor and the MIDI control is great. The only issue is that the CX does not have a MIDI THRU port, so you'll need a splitter. https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-5-PIN-MIDI-Splitter/dp/B093RGSV3T/ref=sr_1_2?crid=1Z1ARHJ8W3RUY&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.cbQ5widK7mOzeryZYuwDxIgLcvrArPQVOtvBEvEJ1tSd6e_sv0ZxxE9rRxLYp6mWDbXg9GP6LCV0V3U-qnP7ZFbWN4WR68qJ-V6LRipjPuwEOff3_wPxReCfc6usQgGZWVeAJN1l2aVr96fnFGKjEYYQs5Zc-qsp2LchBFba7iR1Tiz00ayYBfBAdmDnq8Ee4EAEFUuxsJo8VqwhjFgMmmncKJRJfCHRpePtg_pF1lIwIC8zFDqHvl2vfdSWTdl_vFwnP3upanEm6nYzrjxaxrC59uMWq6zdtFPhpvFiv5tgn6DMj7PElzMIyNkk-3_rdSwSnCWIogopOV7MSh3wohbTW47Eg54Jbl963bFOk_I.GYWsqP8Ea_j2zrzuYGAwfuC4gbbrR17M4pH4AgVwM8w&dib_tag=se&keywords=midi+splitter&qid=1740416029&s=musical-instruments&sprefix=midi+splitter%2Cmi%2C153&sr=1-2 These simple splitter cables are not suitable for complex MIDI configurations due to a variety of issues but are perfect for this simple application. One of these and two standard MIDI cables of sufficient length for your specific needs and you're good to go!
DKBos
Thanks for the reply. Haven't done much with MIDI since I moved to the LT. Before I had a pedalboard with a M5, analog pedals and a Boss switcher that would control the different M5 settings. The LT does so much I don't even know about I'm just wondering what MIDI functions you would control on the CX100? a couple bills doesn't mean much in the long run if its something I will use. On stage, the front of the house controls volume and EQ through PA so its something that wouldn't carry through.
rd2rk
The standard 2 button FS controls two functions on one amp. The LT, using MIDI (with the splitter cable I linked) can control every available function on two amps simultaneously. My standard presets, in STOMP MODE, switch Channels and toggle BOOST, both FX and the NG. In PRESET MODE I can select any of the 12 Channels. The 2 button FS can select BANK + 1 other function OR Channel A/B + 1 other function OR BOTH and NO other functions. You can assign Expression Pedals to control any of the AMP parameters as well as any of the "DEEP" FX parameters. EX: Spare an FX Block on the LT by assigning an Exp Pedal to the Cat's VOLUME parameter; assign an Exp Pedal to FEEDBACK on a DELAY and go from slapback to infinite repeats. You can also control Channel Level and select cabs and mics on the XLR Out. Since the Channel Level controls the level of the XLR Out, you could use the VOLUME (CC#7) combined with the Channel Volume (CC#17) to auto-level the differences between Preset Levels. You can change amps or FX within a preset or in MANUAL MODE, including pre/post position. There's more (RTM!), and I'm hoping for direct CC control (vs single parameter control via exp pedal) of the "DEEP" FX parameters in a future update. DKBos
Went to local GC to play (surprised they actually had stock.) Played the amp and it sounded good, but sounded way different then my headphones which means it would be way different then the FOH. The rep there had me try the Headrush FRFR108 MkII, stating that was what he used as his monitor. It was very close to what I was hearing with my headphones plus they were on sale this month so saved $$ and got my solution. Dimed out they get a bit piercing but I'm always direct into a PA with in-ears on stage so for at home practice and possibly an occasional small venue these will work just fine. I think if I didn't go direct in FOH all the time I would have preferred the sound of the CX100's. Thanks for the info
