HX Stomp in Headrush FRFR112-mk2

My HX Stomp sounded great into a bass power amp and cab, but sounds too hot/distorted/muffled going into a Headrush FRFR112-mk2. I've set up as per the 'HX Stomp with Powered Speakers' section of the manual, and followed all the directions (in fact, tried all available options) under 'Setting Proper Levels '. I've also tried reducing the main output volume. I've tried both active and passive basses, both of which sounds fabulously clean DI into the Headrush, but overcooked with any preset on the HX Stomp.

Is this just a case of rebuilding every preset and adding IRs or Cabs? I'm really surprised that it went from sounds great into a power-amp/cab, to 'so bad' into the headrush, rather than being something that was OK but could be easily improved upon with amps/cabs/IR.

If you're getting great results from going into a powered FRFR, what are you setting the volume knob on the HXS to? Does it need to be really low?

I have the original HR FRFR112.

My bass is passive, and the default settings on any of the AMP/CAB models are just fine, requiring just a bit of compression to accommodate my heavy-handed style of playing.

Attach an example of a preset that causes the "overcooked" sound that you're hearing.
