kgedwards
Hi all. I'm new to the Helix scene and recently got the Stadium XL. I'm trying to figure out how to control my Orange Super Crush 100 channels and reverb from the Stadium. I can only find videos on YouTube for the original Helix, which looks much simpler than on the Stadium. The Stadium manual warns about only connecting to amps that utilize "short-to-sleeve" and connecting to any other input can cause damage to your amp and/or Helix. Kinda want to avoid doing damage! Does anyone have experience with ext amp control on the Stadium? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm hoping I can make this work as it would be a nice option to have without needing the additional control pedal.
ricksteruk
Oh darn that is so annoying.. just looking into the Stadium to see if it addresses the hardware issues from the old Floor model.. The major ones being: - Ext Amp control not properly ground isolated so it does not work will all amps - XLR Mic socket does not have reliable safety buffering - meaning if you accidentally unplug the XLR while 48v is on your mic input can get fried. Anyone know if we can easily blow up the XLR input on the Stadium or if it is the same design? When my XLR got yanked out of my Helix Floor a few years ago at first it had just blown the 48v supply, but now the entire mic preamp is dead. I was always hoping that they'd add the ability to use USB input and outputs on the Send / Return blocks too.. Still hoping.. :)
XONE
Yes, you can control your Orange Super Crush with the Stadium XL. I have mine controlling my Engl Powerball 2. Connect a TRS cable from your A/B Output Jack to the Footswitch In. In Command Center, set up both Tip and Ring on the Lightning Bolts. Since you have 2 channels, you need to find out what combination changes the channels on the Orange. Channel one is probably 0+0 (Open + Open) Channel two might be: 0+1 (Open + Closed), or 1+0 (Closed + Open), or 1+1 (Closed + Closed) You'll have to test and see. But it will change channels on your Orange. It's a good feeling the first time you stomp the footswitch and your amp changes the channel. Also, you can do the same with C/D to control the Hi/Lo feature on the Super Crush. Hope this helps.
