Very short volume bump when changing patches with FX loop engaged HX Stomp

I can't quite figure this one out. I've got a Tone King Imperial in the FX loop of my HX Stomp. Both the Tone King and Stomp receive midi patch changes. When I switch from one patch where the tone king is on it's Lead channel to another patch where the tone king is on its clean channel there is a momentary spike in volume. Playing along if I simply press the Tone King foot switch to change from its lead to clean channel (not changing the Stomp's preset) it's seamless. The two tone king channels are evenly matched volume wise. Needless to say, without the FX loop on in the stomp there is no issue either. I keep thinking there's some place in the stomp patch path that has a higher gain/volume and when it's changing patches it's writing data in sequence and it changes a parameter that creates a 'hot spot' for just a moment before changing another parameter that brings the volume back down. Just a guess.

Anyone have any idea what's causing this? It's a very noticeable spike in volume for 1/2 a second.
