Pod XT Live: Flashing Firmware in 2026 (or recovering factory defaults)

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I just managed to get my hands on a pre-owned Pod XT Live.

It is working fine and already up to the latest firmware version, but the previous owner overwrote all the presets, so I'd been wanting to reinstall the firmware in order to recover the factory tones.

However, nothing I've tried works. I have installed the 4.2.7.7 drivers, downloaded Monkey 1.77, Line 6 Edit, and even Gearbox.

Output to a DAW works wonderfully, Line 6 Edit works (I managed to backup the current tones), and Gearbox works too.

Line 6 Monkey is the one that refuses to "see" the device, even when importing the settings file provided elsewhere in this site.

I've tried every combination of USB port in my PC, USB controller, driver version, I even tried to do it through a Win 8.1 virtual machine, to no avail. I also tried some startup button combinations suggested by google searches, but nothing works.

Has anyone had any success in doing this? Or alternatively, does anybody have a backup of the PodXT Live default banks?

Below here a solution that would most likely work, but I take no responsibility, so it's up to you.

Read this about the workaround to get the Monkey app to work at least in offline mode (actually, the only possible mode currently):

--> Line 6 Monkey Pending Retirement

Download the linked below here firmware file (which I saved years ago when I used the XTL) to update your device in offline mode (where essentially, Monkey, by selecting the relevant option, uses the already downloaded firmware file in offline mode instead of attempting to download the necessary file directly online):

--> PODxtLive 3.01 firmware

IIRC doing so you'll get back all the factory presets.

Good luck!

Thank you for your replies.
I was already aware of Monkey being retired, and had already tried the steps hurghanico suggested.

I have opened a support ticket as silverhead indicated, and will update with the results.

Support offered variations on the solutions already explained here.

Since those are not working for me, and I don't expect to be able to get my hands on an older PC, I'm giving up on flashing it for the time being.

I'll make another post trying to see if someone has saved a bundle of the default patches, to load with Line 6 Edit.
