pixel5
Has anyone here successfully gotten the M-VAVE Chocolate Plus to work with any Helix product over USB? I have an HX Stomp and have spent hours on this today, trying every combination of settings and cables possible. The C+ I have works (tested with an Ampero Mini) and the cables work. MIDI over USB is turned on in settings, I've tried sending CC and PC commands with absolutely no response by the HX unit. Tried using different channels, plugging things in and powering them up in different orders, updated firmware all around, absolutely nothing is working. As I have seen recommended on older threads and videos around the internet, this is what you're supposed to do: On the Chocolate Plus side: Set to HOST mode Bluetooth disabled (long-pressing B + C) USB-C plugged into charger USB-A plugged into device to be controlled (in my case, HX Stomp) On the HX Stomp side: MIDI base channel matches the commands being sent MIDI Thru is off USB MIDI is on MIDI PC RX set to USB (or USB + MIDI) I'd like to believe I am doing something wrong/missing something easy, but at this point I am starting to think that MIDI over USB is a non-functional feature of the Stomp. Someone please prove me wrong.
pixel5
Still no resolution, but I wanted to update with other things I've tried since the original post: Changed MIDI channel to Omni so that it should respond regardless of what channel is transmitted Connected both the HX Stomp and the Chocolate Plus to my computer and ran a MIDI tester to confirm that the raw command (hexidecimal?) being sent by the C+ is indeed the command that will perform the intended action on the HX Stomp. I was able to send a MIDI command from the computer to the HX Stomp without issue, which tells me that this is a communication problem specific to these two devices. Since the C+ works with the Ampero Mini perfectly, I am still inclined to believe the fault lies with the HX Stomp. After discovering the above, I downgraded the HX Stomp firmware to 3.71 to see if this was perhaps a bug introduced by 3.80, it did not have any apparent effect. Attempted to use a USB hub (knowing it was certainly not going to help, but I'm at my wits end) Changed the way the command is sent (Single step, short press, long press, etc)
rd2rk
If MIDI over USB works from your computer, then it's not the HXS. If you can return the C+, do it and get an Ampero Control. It's virtually the same device but with standard DIN plugs, Work first time/every time. Also has USB (no HOST mode) and BT if you must. I don't BT, but use USB when controlling plugins. I don't BT, but use USB when controlling plugins. The C+ has a TRS MIDI out (with reversible polarity), and I have ordered a TRS -> 5-pin DIN cable. I have little doubt that this will work, and is a solution which is at least $75 cheaper than buying an Ampero Control, however I would have preferred to (a) not have had to buy an additional cable and (b) not use up space on the left side of the HX Stomp on my small pedalboard, but it seems that this is my only choice. rd2rk
Ah! Didn't see that the "PEDAL" jack doubles as TRS MIDI. Once upon a time there were brick'n'mortar stores with knowledgeable staff where you could try this stuff out before buying.
