RJKole
Hello, A real world guitar amp usually has a speaker that does not exceed abt. 5/6000 Hz. So you can put as much distortion/gain/EQ into it you wont hear frequencies above that range period. Against a Helix cab/amp fed into a studio rig will produce way more frequencies above that range. You will very likely hear way more hisss and sss as with that guitar speaker. I was wondering WHAT is the real Sound of a guitar, what comes from the real cab oder the helix cab fed into studio speakers ? ( This could possibly lead to the insight that helix cabs are required to cut off near 5000/6000Hz for a "real world" sound, i heard so many Helix Sounds that sound awful in my ears just because of that hsss, sss above the range mentioned, easily to achieve on a digital unit imO but yes again maybe interesting to discuss about whats real or not ) Your opinions ? How do you define 'sound'? If you define it by what your ear hears, then there is necessarily a speaker of some sort involved (guitar amp, studio monitors, headphones,...). And that means you are not hearing what you call the 'real' sound; you're hearing the sound coloured by the speaker and there are as many sounds as there are speakers. If you define sound as the presence of a physical waveform then you can see (but not hear) the 'real' sound in the recording of the dry signal. As soon as you listen to it it's no longer the 'real' sound you are seeking; it's been coloured. In other words, a rather meaningless question appealing only to philosophers and perhaps quantum physicists for whom the observation of an event affects the event itself. RJKole
LOL, your so right. Dumb question, perhaps a leftover from a recent stroke. Thanks for your comment though :-)
silverhead
Not a dumb question at all. People have been asking since the dawn of time whether or not that damn tree makes a sound! And there are age-old statements like this: “This sentence is a lie.” True or false?
