elbe5050
Hi All, I've only had my StadiumXL for 2 days and been trying to learn everything I can by reading the on-line manual as well as watching lots of YouTube sessions. All the information gained is great but everyone seems to not mention one of the most important settings and that is the output volume levels of the various outputs. I'm using the XLR outputs from the Helix to two FRFR powered speakers and my first attempt to play the first preset resulted in me almost blowing my speakers. Luckily I was quick enough to slam the volume pedal down. Now I was using all default settings and I made a wrong assumption that the unit would be basically be set to play. The manual stated that the XLR outputs should be set to Line if connecting to FRFR boxes but I read somewhere else that XLR outputs should be set to Mic, Setting the XLR outputs to Mic resulted in correct volume range. So not sure which is the correct setting for these but at least I can play without going deaf. Now the other issue with excessively loud volume is when a Clip is played. Again the volume of Clips seem to be extremely loud and I cannot find a way to adjust the volume of Clips independantly so that all the other volumes are not affected. Can any tell me if this is possible? I know it's early days and I have lots to learn but I'm finding some of these "simple" things are taking a lot of time to resolve and no one seems to cover this topic as if it's oh so obvious that it isn't worth covering. Any advice on the topic of controlling volumes would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and best regards.
silverhead
Well, here’s the second paragraph of the manual’s Simple Setup section: “Caution - It might get loud! Always turn the Volume for the respective output(s) counterclockwise to minimum before making connections to external gear and headphones to avoid encountering loud bursts of audio . Exposure to high volume levels can potentially cause hearing damage or harm to your equipment.” Also I believe the powered monitors would have their own volume controls. You can adjust those instead of the Stadium device if you prefer. The Stadium default level settings can’t predict what the external gear is, or what it’s settings are.
elbe5050
Hi and thank you for your reply. Yes the FRFR speakers do have a volume control but it was set to the same level as I have been using for a few years with my Helix LT connected via its XLR outputs and output volume was never an issue so I didn't expect it. The other question was relating to the Clip volume which I found to be very loud even when everything was set to a resonable level. Is there any way to directly control Clip volume? Don't get me wrong. I'm a huge Line6 fan and love the new Helix Stadium XL but I really would like to have an answer to the Clip volume question. Even a pointer to the relevant section in the manual. Thank you for any advice. It is much appreciated.
silverhead
This is what I found in the manual, similar to the earlier discussion here: Important! Be sure to reduce the volume of Stadium’s output(s) before entering the Preset Clip view, and gradually increase the volume as needed. That suggests to me that there is no Clip-specific internal Stadium level control.
