Since there's a spate of wishlists, here's mine.

What I'd like to see is very simple in most regards.  Instead of a conucopia of amps, most of which won't be used I would like to see a shell or base unit HD500 type device.  This would come with zero amps and zero effects and sell at a price that is reasonable.  Then, you could go shopping at Line 6's online shopping center and try then buy only the amp models, cabinet models, impulse responses and effects you actually wany and a fair price for one item.

I got this idea while using Reason 7 which is made by Propellerheads.  They sell you the basic Reason package, and then offer Rack Extensions made by them and other developers according to very specific design requirements.  You can try any of these for thirty days once, and then either buy them or they evaporate off your system the next time you connect to your computer.

If Line 6 did something like this AND developed an open standard SDK for other develkopers to jump on board and thereby collect commission on each sale of these as well as their own -- I can't see how they (and we) couldn't benefit.  The Reason ecosystem has proven to work and work well with this model and by making the rules and signing off on every potential shop item, they would ensure we only got items that worked as advertised and didn't crash the system PLUS we could all try everything we were interested in for 30 days to see how it fits.

Your idea of a base model device and marketplace has been suggested several times on Ideascale. It is a great idea, one which Peavey is now using for Revalver 4, although they do not currently have a hardware component yet.

I am quite confident that this is the direction that Line 6 will follow with their next generation of Pod HD1000X. It appears to be a win-win scenario for all, but what do we know. D. I. Could pop his head in and shoot it down for many reasons.

I would be very interested in being able to purchase the amps and effects that I want, and not be forced to purchase the items that I do not want. The base unit would have to come equipped with a few models though, completely bare would p.o. the uninformed.

Good idea, we will have to wait and see the direction they choose. I doubt will we hear anything until summer 2015.

Yeah, good point on the "Starter Amp(s)" for the base unit.  One or two anyway with marketing fluff on the packaging saying to get your amps online...they do that already really with model packs.  This idea just scales it out to onsies and could let other developers onboard to take up the slack of what Line 6 doesn't want to or have time to deal with -- and still make a small profit off of it.  This is kind of what the Kemper community is doing if I understand it correctly, but since I don't have one I can't say for sure.  I know you can take snapshots of your own amp(s) with it and download others anyway.

I'm glad it's already on Ideascale.  The Reason Rack Extension market is booming right now and each and every one of them abide by the same rules, unlike VSTs which are often sketchy in their use.  For example, hitting "undo" on a VST could undo opening it altogether while with  a rack extension, you actually undo the actions within it right up to the point where you instantiated it.  Since Line 6 had a partnership with Propellerheads until just recently, I can't believe this idea hasn't been kicked around at Calabasas already.

Really I love the POD500x as it is. Only 2 things I would like added.

1. An acoustic amp.

2. Amp foot switch (not for real amp but a foot switch to modeled amp so it feels more like working with that amp).

See, I already thought of that!

They could sell the "Fully Loaded" model at full price for those who want that!

I already said that...but yeah, that's key to the concept.

You mean it switches channels, engages the reverb... that sort of thing?

On the modeled amp yes. I know I can mimc that now use two patches but then my pedals might not be switch on etc.... I like to use to the POD like the old school setup but modeled. So I get a tone I want the still dance on the pedals(switches). So it would be nice to have one that switch the amp channels just like if I had old school setup with a amp switch on the floor. I had some fenders with the reverb switch but never used it. But yea.

You can switch two different Amps on to off and off to on with a single switch, but that does mean having two Amps which eats DSP.

I would prefer Scenes (as found on Axe FX, Yamaha Motif Keyboard and many, many others) where the Patch defines what components are present, but a Scene defines the state of all of the controls - 4 or 8 scenes per patch would be plenty and this would be an alternative to (or extension of) footswitch mode.  Using an Expression pedal to go between two states is currently possible, except that as there is no control over the taper of the expression pedal (linear not audio) the middle positions are generally useless so it might as well be a switch

Not using a DT.  Unless someone can show me where I was off when you turn off Amp A on the Pod and hooked to DT it automaticly swtiches to channel B on the DT which doesn't use the POD.
