The answer is no. It is set by the first effect and unfortunately does not change as turned on/off. Put a Fuzz Face in the first position and it sets impedance to 22k which sound good with the fuzz turned on, but when turned off the amp will sound really dull. Bummer.

Ummm... Axe-Fx II

While it does add a little extra tweakability, it is not a game changer IMO. Definitely not nearly as exciting as fixing the cabinets, EQ or adding new amp models or effects.

Agreed. I am happy to see something after 6 months of crickets. But, this update is rather light on content for a product that has been on the market for one year and has not had an update in 6 months.

100% agreed. 6+ months between updates is a ridiculous amount of time when your product still has a lot of rough edges. Hopefully Boss, Digitech or someone else will soon come out with a more polished product forcing Line 6 to improve support for the HD line up.

I would have to agree with hansvaneven that the HD is currently the best hardware based amp modeler available for the price. But I must also agree that the HD is in desperate need of updates. I recently downloaded the demo of Scuffham S-Gear ($75 to buy), and comparing the HD to S-Gear makes it painfully obvious that the HD is falling far behind other solutions. The dynamics, feel, volume control response and tone of S-Gear are all head and shoulders above the HD. Obviously the HD has a huge advantage in being a complete, easy to use package, but when talking sound quality it is falling far behind. Hopefully Line 6 will start pushing out some updates to close the sound quality gap, but after six month of no updates its getting frustrating to wait.

I have been playing around the last few days with the free demo of Scuffham S-Gear, new computer based modeling software, and must say I am really impressed. The amp, cab and mic modeling are all top notch, rivaling the Axe-Fx II IMHO. I have been particularly impressed with how nicely it deals with changing volume on the guitar to clean up an amp, something the POD HD is particularly bad at IMO. The amps and cabinets in S-Gear also don't have the strange frequency bumps, excessive bass muddiness in some cabs, ghost notes and other issues I often run in to with the HD500. Furthermore, S-Gear generally sounds incredible without tweaking, EQ or other tricks, something I can not usually say about my HD500. The HD500 works pretty well as a USB guitar interface with S-Gear if you want to try out the free demo. Although, S-Gear definitely sounds and works better through a good dedicated USB interface if you have one.

I am really hoping Line 6 is taking notice of how good some of the other modeling products are getting and will soon release a major firmware update to address some of HDs weaknesses.

Add me to the list that would prefer a few smaller updates that address some major shortcomings sooner than one big update that addresses everything at once, but takes a year to arrive.

I also wish Line 6 learned a little from Apple and made fewer incredibly complete and well thought out products than a whole bunch of good enough products.

I keep hoping they are finally going to fix all the deficiencies that the HD line shipped with a year ago and add some cool new amps and effects. But after nearly six months of hearing nothing but crickets I am starting to have my doubts if they are listening or care.

Sounds like an interesting idea. But even more overwhelming than learning the nuts and bolts of the Axe-Fx II. When I play guitar I usually prefer to take my engineer cap off

All the bugs are not fixed! Look around this and other forums for a list, and they should be addressed through free updates. And as I stated in my earlier post, I would be happy to pay extra for some expansion packs. I was not expecting my fairy godmother to give it to me for free.
