I had the problem with the high E string going over the side of the fretboard. Thanks to reading this forum, I anticipated this before I bought the guitar so I got both it and a Statocaster neck from eBay, and the cost of the luthier added up to a bit less than the cost of a new JTV69.

Thanks to those on the forum who suggested replacing the neck. The luthier had to remove a bit of material to get the neck to align properly with the body but it only cost about $100 plus a set of strings. The result is a great improvement.

Recommendations for Auditioning Modeled Tones on JTV69

Hi,

I've tried the JTV69 twice as well as the Roland G5 recently, but found it was hard to discern the different models. For example, the banjo seemed to barely sound like a banjo and the acoustic models sounded very electric. The sitar was clear, but the strat/tele tones seemed almost identical. I tried the guitars with two tube amps and a solid state amp. I'm very much a beginner with guitars but I checked the obvious things like ensuring the gain wasn't electrifying the tones. On the various youtube videos the different tones are clearly discernable e.g., Simon Bradley from Guitarist magazine).

Any suggestions for how to best hear the different tones? A specific amp? Specific amp settings for specific tones? Headphones?

Hi,

When I decided to shop for a JTV69, I found that as far as I can tell, they're not in any music store in Ontario, Canada (where I live). This seems to leave mail order as the only other option, but after reading the many and recent posts about a variety of unrelated quality issues, I'm really concerned about buying one sight-unseen. I'm also do not have advanced knowledge to identify problems, so I might not realize that something is wrong until it's too late to return it. I guess I'll have to figure out whether I can return it if it's defective (without getting into the repair loop) without a restocking fee. This would still be a big hassle.

Does anyone know how I can find out where a JTV69 might be in a store somewhere in Ontario, or how I might be able to try one risk-free?
