That's exactly what I've been thinking about too Quarterwave. More from a safety-first POV - as in if my presets got scrambled at a show because of a power spike or whatever, I could at least attempt to resurrect the situation by reloading them. I think there's a facility on the L6 site to raise enhancement requests. I think it's worth asking the question.

Hi Scott, I don't think the HD500 will do what you want. If I understand you correctly, you want a patch that (while using the hook-up you describe) to have a cab model included in the patch that is only "visible" to the XLR out - so that you're using just an amp model (no cab) going to your amp and then at the same time the same model with cab going to FOH.

There are many waaaay more qualified people on this site than me to comment on this idea, but from my understanding of the way it all works, it's not possible. Guys?

But back to CroSSed's dilema, I can totally relate to what appears to be an overwheleming amount of info to wade through and an even more daunting array of settings within the POD to come to grips with. And you freel like a ******* because everyone's talking about things you have no experience with an so on. BUT, it really isn't as horrible as it seems and as soon as you build your first simple patch it pretty much all starts to fall into place. Stick with it! You won't be disappointed!

Keep posting questions. No-one's gonna bag you for it. The dudes on this site are fantastic. And check out meanbobbo's site. Very good!

I'm using the 4CM and really enjoying it. But because I'm so lazy, I haven't done any comparisons between the 4CM and just using the HD500 in front of my amp though. I just figured I'd like to take advantage of the full functionality on offer so after a bit of a struggle, I got it sorted and I've stuck with it and am very happy with the results. I use my single channel Egnater's preamp for crunch tones and model amps for the clean stuff. I'm in a covers band most of the time and the HD500 is fantastic for emulating the sounds created by the original guitarists. I'm going to try the XLR to desk output (as well as using my amp) this weekend.

Good on ya HwyStar! Why this functionality isn't included in the editor is a complete mystery to me. It would seem to be a pretty straifgtforward thing to do (not meaning to diminish your efforts BTW). Maybe you could send the devs the code and they could tart it up to be a part of the next editor release!

That's an excellent tip Jim. For what it's worth, here in Australia I payed $450 (ebay Buy It Now price) which was being sold as "as new" and it turned out to be just that. Very happy! The PS and the USB cable boxes were still unopened and the screen still had the plastic on it.

OK, the penny has finally dropped. Finally . . . So now I DO have an FX Loop in my signal path and the Egnater's pre-amp DOES respond to its controls which I'm really happy about as it's got some nice crunchy sounds. I think I had the amp's volume too low when I was trying to get the POD's FX Loop happening and in the spin I was in, I think I didn't have the return dB rating high enough as well.

I am beginning to see what the hype is all about!

Hi Jim, just to hopefully close the loop (no pun intended) on this one, I think I've got it sorted.

I'm connecting with the 4CM following your support docos on this site which seems to work fine - the only unexpected result being the it completely by-passes the Egnater's pre-amp. So I use pre-amp models with no cabs and there's no FX Loop block in my chain. I place my FX pre and post in the SFV and it seems to work very nicely. The signal seems a little bright across the board, but some EQing helps. I'm using the stack power input option and instrument levels as the line setting introduced noise. Hope that makes sense.

Thanks very much for your help Jim. You're on the money about me being spun out! I had the cabling right, just couldn't understand the amp's conrols being by-passed and how the HD500's FX Loop affects things. I found a thread on this site that actually discussed a little of this in relation to Egnater amps here: http://line6.com/support/message/380044 It's even got some pearls of wisdom from you in it which made good sense. I'm going to fiddle around a bit more, experiment a bit more and see how I go.

Oh, one thing that just popped into my head is that the FX Loop Send/Return and Mix controls don't seem to affect anything. I think it's all somehow related to the way the Egnater's FX Loop is set up. Looksx like some intensive fiddling coming up!
