I would use no amp or effects and record the sound straight through to your recording software. Do all of your post record processing there.

In your recording program, select ASIO sends 3 & 4. Make sure you have them set to "dry" in the mixer section of PF

You can ue the HS500 patches with the HD. You'll need to install HD500 edit first. Open each patch in HD500 edit, and change any input options (like Variax) that aren't available on the HD. The patches can then be used in the HD.

I bought a 60" LED smart TV in December 2011. It cost about $2,000 USD (well more than a Variax 700 ever did). Eventually it will break, or grow obsolete; being replaced by newer models with more features. If it breaks, I do no expect that the manufacturer will have parts to repair it, unless if breaks in the first couple of years. That's the way it is with consumer electronics. The stuff that Line 6 makes is no different.

I have worked for several high end enterprise computer manufacturers. Even in that space, repair parts only tend to be available for 5 years from the date that the product is withdrawn from the market, and then, only if the customer is paying a hefty annual fee for support, which pays for the manufacturer to keep those parts on hand.

Perhaps Line 6 should offer extended support, for a price (which I doubt more than a few would pay), that would pay L6 to keep spare parts in stock. Even then, eventually it gets to a point where the technology becomes obsolete, and component parts are no longer available.

I feel your pain, and have sympathy, but at the end of the day, Line 6 kit is no more than consumer electronics, with a limited lifespan. Someday it WILL fail, and will need to be replaced. The fact that it is a guitar makes little difference. Eventually the electronics will fail, and you will be left with a canoe paddle with strings; or a just OK guitar with mag pickups, in the cast of the JTV's. In the mean time, enjoy it for what it is; an extremely versitile musical tool, that will have a limited lifespan.

1 - They can download PF1, but they will only be able to use the stand-alone version, and not the plug-in. As far as the interaction with with the model packs PF1 and PF 2.5 work the same.

2 - You will need to re-do your patches in PF 2.5. The signal chain routing is totally different.

1. Yes. The models attach to the account now, not specifically to the device

2. Your PF Plat models will be useable with PF 2.5. If you have PF Plat, you can use the standard PF 2.5 license and still have all the models. PF Plat & PF 2.5 will have to be in the same account. Note, PF Plat iLok licenses do not give authorization to other devices or other versions of PF.

3. Just remove the authorization from the TonePort

4. You can do either, but be careful if your PF Plat license is in the same accouunt. I would just gift the licenses and inform the buyer that he cannot transfer them later.

I can speak for others, but the setup on my JT59 is also less than ideal. I've found that the nut was cut too deep, which also can add to buzzing issues. Currently it's at my luthier for a complete setup, adjustment, and fret dress (Plek) . They caught the nut issue right away, and they're going to shim it. I told them not to set the action too low, just because of the acoustic modeling. I'm REALLY lookng forward to getting it back later in the week.

I've found that acoustic strumming on the Variax takes a lighter touch than you might be accustomed to. There are a couple of reasons for this. I do tend to strum harder when playing acoustic, thus creating more string buzz and mechanical noise, which the piezo's are susceptable to. With the action a bit lower, and the strings lighter than a real acoustic guitar, fret buzz is a lot easier to be a side effect.

The iLok license is Standard, or Platinum. All or nothing. You cannot use model packs with it, and it will not work with the stand-alone version. It is plug-in only. All the plug-ins, like the elements are available. You can use it on as many computers as you likre, as long as the iLok is attached.

The stand-alone version will allow you to use your model packs. You can even install it on a computer without a Line 6 device attached, and any model packs you've purchased will also be available. You can even use non-Line 6 input devices with the stand-alone version. There are three catches: 1. Any model packs that are permanently attached to hardware, like the PowerPak, and the FX Junkie on the XTLive, will only be available when the XTLive is attached. This is not an issue if you purchased them separately; 2. You can only have four Line 6 devices and computers authorized at any one time; 3. You only have 10 lifetime authorizations total (so chose carefully)
