I can't imagine that the JTV main-board (as well as all the other integral parts that make it a variax) can't be used for old school Variax's. And with the number of people dying to use their Variax's, but can't due to failed parts - they should offer an "on-demand" parts replacement option. Or at least give us the true manufacturer and let us decide if the expense is worth replacing the part. I was directed to a company that has software for flash memory fixes, but since there's no USB input to the main-board, this option is moot. With all this technology, it's sad that we just have to junk a perfectly good guitar - or break out the router.

Anyone have any info on hard wiring the pickups from a Variax 500 to the piezo input on main-board? I've seen a few pictures on donor sites, but nothing in depth. Especially the name of the piezo plug (8 in-line pins) that connects to the port on the v500 board, and where to buy). I got a new input jack assembly (turns out it is not for a V500) and in the process of installing, managed to tear off the ribbon connector from the board to the bridge. My only other option (since my 500 is bricked and there are no longer replacement parts (sucks to be a JTV user in 5 years) is to route out the front of the guitar and install a regular passive pickup and wiring. Or sell for junk parts.

I found someone who was an acoustic 700 board, but wanted to see if I could use that and simply flash the electric 500 firmware on it (hey, I can dream...)

Is it possible to transplant a Variax motherboard from say a Variax 300/500/600 or even a Variax Acoustic 500/700 into my Variax 500?

Not sure if you reflashed your Vax yet, but you might try downgrading the version and seeing if that brings it back to life. I'm sure you've tried tons of stuff, similar to me trying to get mine back after a failed flash mid-way through. I miss the variax, and have to wait to see if I can find one on the cheap so I can transplant the board to my 500.

One thing I read was that the Variax must be powered at the time you are using the USB interface. Also, some of the newer posts show that plugging in a 1/4" cable to the variax (unconnected on the other end) helps in some cases.

Wish I had a replacement board, as my 500 died too. I miss it.

Can anyone tell me what this port is (top of photo)?

Is it possible to somehow connect directly into the main-board to flash a firmware? What kind of connection is that?
