I know all can be overwritten. I've never messed too much with alternate tunings so this isn't a big issue for me, but of course I will experiment and I expect to be more traditional. I read the thread you referred me to... I'll probably just create custom models in Variax Workbench and just keep the tuning knob set to Model. Anyway, that's the preliminary idea.

Thanks for your post.

Kevin

Hi Merlin,

So what you're saying is that the pickups on all custom shop US models are actually the same? The Line6 page for the JTV-59US says the pickups are "vintage PAF-style humbuckers" and on the JTV-89US page it says the pickups are "custom, high-output, alnico humbucking pickups," so the suggestion, at least, is that the pickups do have different windings. Can you confirm all pickups are the same? Also, how do you know? I don't think you work for Line6 do you?

As for the build itself, your comments suggest that these guitars are not being built in Tyler's custom shop here in Los Angeles, is that correct? You make it sound as though he designed the components and set the specs for the neck, hardware, body, etc., but that after that, he has no more contact with actually building the instruments. Is that correct? Which makes me wonder who is actually making the necks and bodys and other typically "hand-crafted" components? You reference World Music in Korea. Is this where these parts are made and then the "USA" models are simply assembled here?

Finally, I heard from my preferred music store it takes about 8 weeks to get a JTV-89US in Wine Red (my preferred color). What was your experience in terms of delivery time, and do you happen to know what current delivery times may be like?

Thanks so much for your response. I really look forward to finding out more...

Kevin

JTV-59US Electronics on a JTV-89US?

Hi all (or maybe just Line 6),

I'm thinking to buy a JTV-89US because I like the two octave fretboard and styling of the form factor. I've already got a couple of Strats, and I've never really cared for the split top wood finishes on the Les Pauls or the JTV-59s, and I sure don't want to pay for a AAAAA top. So, the JTV-89 is a styling that I like and seems functional for me too. So that's what I'd like to have. However, I am no shredder. I know the pickups are different and the electronics (at least the tunings) are different on the 89 from the other models. What I'm thinking I'd like to do is get the JTV-89US and, since it's a custom model anyway, have Tyler put the JTV-59US pickups on it, and then have Line 6 add the JTV-59US electronics and tuning to the guitar. Can I do this? If so, any particular way to write up the order to make sure everybody does their part right? :-)

Thanks,

Kevin

Hi Jerry, your reply does resonate with me. The other approach I was considering had me with a DT25 112 combo and I figured to take a direct line off of that for the PA. I planned to put an attentuator on it so I could play at low volumes and just use it to get tone. But I also know I can get tone just by going direct to the PA. I've heard of Atomic. You are right, they are pricey. I ended up buying a Traynor keyboard amp that was raved about and it's worked fine with my Pod X3 Live.

Hmmm... lot of good comments here and much food for thought...

Kevin

I like the idea of having a backline, and recognize that it is a very different vibe than using in-ears - and in some ways higher energy and more fun too - but the drummer will be playing an electronic kit so he's only going to be in the PA anyway. Seems to me decent in-ears will give us more of a fidelity given the way we'll be playing when we're out in a church somewhere. We'll be rehearsing through the PA though so we'll still have a good sense of what will be happing out front when we play. Make sense as an approach?

Kevin
