Thanks man, every tip gets me a bit closer. I can now say I got a signal going to Garageband and we maybe getting this down to set up within the software. I only can see the signal if I hit record, I haven't got it set up to where I can strum the guitar and see the signal jump. Also the initial recorded signal was pretty weak but as Greyhill mentioned this might be a product of the setup. When I do record, the wave signal is really small and barely viewable - again, maybe how it is set up.

Thanks greghall. I think my issue maybe in the Garageband setup itself. I haven't found too much direct info for Garageband 11 and most of the tutorials on sites like YouTube etc are for older versions. I have been able to go through them and find settings and change them so a bit fickled why I'm not getting a signal. Originally before your response I was going directly into the Mac with and without the HD400. Since your info I am hooked up as follows:

- HD400 On

- HD Edit Opened

- Headphones in HD400

- Open Audio MIDI Setup

- Select HD400

- Select use sound for device sound input

- Select use sound for device sound ouput

- Open Garageband

- Create new track

- Select Guitar

- Open Preferences/Audio Input select POD HD 400 (this shows up because I did the earlier set above) I do get a message that Midi Device Status is "detected" so that indicates it sees the HD400. One thought I have here is with version 9 and earlier you have a step where you can select either MIDI or Real Instrument. It says MIDI is for keyboards or USB input. I wonder if I should be selecting MIDI instead of the shortcut to Guitar or Real Instrument?

At this point I feel I should be seeing a wave signal when I strum the guitar. It is coming through the headphones. I did try it without the headphones to see if perhaps it was somehow robbing the signal but no luck.

Me not being much of a technical wizard past this any additional thoughts or recommendations for publications that might walk me through it? I don't mind paying for the manual or support but there doesn't seem to be alot on ver 11 on the internet and don't would like to get some suggestions before throwing cash at shady sites.

HD 400 and Garageband 11

Wanted to see if anyone is working with Garageband (current version 11 or other) with a HD 400 hooked up to the computer as well? I've been hooking my guitar up as outlined for Garageband but the signal sees to be blocked or interupted. I was wondering if anyone else is using them in combination or do I have to totally disconnect the HD 400 in order to use Garageband?

I've replaced some of the original, factory presets (after saving a copy) with patches from the tone page of the website and they worked fine. However, when I shutdown the computer and come back and fire it up POD HD Edit and the board the names are gone from the Edit menu and replaced by the words "default preset?" The names and patches remain on the board and they play fine. I tried saving the names from the board to the Edit program but no luck. I've also tried altering the start up sequence i.e. have the board on then fire up the computer etc as this sometimes will impact work for getting computer programs to correct themselves but no luck there either.

I do have all the patches saved/bundled and can reload the but this is a pain every time.

I suspect this is a rookie mistake but is this just the way it is or am I doing something wrong?

A ton of thanks to both you and ozbandman for helping me dig out of the ditch. I'm not an electronics expert so this may sound a bit funny but it is almost as if the board is breaking in or aging up the more I use it?? I had it on all morning and the volumes seem to be inproving. I thought only wines got better with time.

I think at this point it is a matter of me digging in with the manual and playing with it to learn how it works. Hopefully the questions in the future will be more challenging patch building and performance enhancements etc.

I will start with all the tips you included in the prior post as a means to dial in the amps.

Some success this morning. As a last ditch effort I replaced the cables AND went back to my VOX 15W night Train. I don't think the cables were the problem as all my cables are standard off the shelf versions but perhaps some were in better shape than others.

I believe what I am up against now is learning how to optimize the volume. I suspect each of the amp models have some degree of their own set ups but as an example I had the volume almost all the way up on my VOX and the clean and Pawnshop amp settings were marginally audible - the high gain blew me out of the room.

In the presets I saw a setting that over rides the facotry presets and allows you to control the amps from the panel ( I believe at the time I was focusing on other problems).

Any additional tips for optimizing volume now that we have something to work with.

P.S. who are you guys? Are you just nice guys that like helping rookies get up and running or do you actually work for Line6?

Your tip about the extra weight helped me get thru the recalibration but no change in the sound out put. I did/have the following:

- Tested all the cables directly to the small 10W Fender amp I'm using and they all work.

- I powered off the HD400.

- Plugged the cable from the amp input in the front of the amp (with the amp off) directly to the 1/4" LMono port although I've tried the right as well. The unbalanced output is switched to amp.

- Plugged the guitar directly into the guitar in port making sure it isn't accidently plugged into the Pedal2 port next to it.

- Powered on the HD400 and the amp. The screen reads Bank 01A 65 clean

- Volume knob on the back of the HD400 is at ~75%.

- Drive, Bass, Mid, Treble, CH Vol are at ~50%

- For good measure I have all the FX turned up a bit.

- To test it I pressed the wah pedal on and when I strum the strings and rock the pedal I can hear a very light wah sound but I'm putting my ear against the amp grill to hear it.

- Mode is with the greem light up at amp pre/post) and a green light at the bottom of 3 lights by the "A"

ANthing I'm missing????

Excellent point so I took the unit back to Guitar Center where one of the tech's and I fooled with it and eventually decided to try another. I feel strongly I'm missing something big/easy here.

This time I didn't download any update and the same thing is happening with this unit. I tried head phones and amp, made sure everything is in tight and in the right place etc.

Per the suggestions I tried the factory restore and when I get to the Pedal Calibration I get to the point of "press and hold the toe switch" and nothing happens - I never get the "Pedal to MIN pos and press ChD" screen.

The only external sound I've been able to get out of this thing is with the head phones I was able to hear some of FX3 echo come through but that is it.

- Could it be possible I have 2 bad ones in a row?

- Is there not a Line 6 live person that can talk me through this? I'll pay for the time just to get this closed out or returned for good to GC.

I just brought a HD400 and after reading a number of recommendations I first went to the Line6 website and downloaded the updates the software identified and recommended - this appeared to go OK.

Ready to crank I

- Plugged my strat into the Guitar in port

- The Vox Night Train amp in into the unbalanced output (tried both mono/left and right)

- Moved the selector swith to Amp

- Master Volume up to 50%

- Amp and HD400 plugged in and powered up

- Guitar Volume up

No sound comes out? I feel like I'm missing some obvious volume or on/off switch or some easy (foolishly overlooked step). Is there and obvious miss step here? Should I reload the software/drivers??

Any help would be appreciated and don't be afraid to call me a dump a*^%&$ if it will help me to get some sound out of the HD400.
