Re: RE: Pod X3 Live - Clicks and drop outs when switching between patches

I also have the problem with the X3 clicking between patches.

Latest firm ware and everything.

Works fine in until I use a distorted patch in dual mode.

Then this stays in memory, instead of being flushed from memory. [Line6 - this is sloppy programming and dead easy to fix!]

And it's this patch that I hear momentarily when changing patches.

Works arounds:

Turning the unit off and on will flush the memory.

Create a silent patch to use on the second patch.

In dual mode - make sure this is the 2nd patch and selected before going back to single mode.

Viola - no clicking.

I can't believe Line6 haven't bothered to fix such a glaring problem, and one that's so easy to fix.

Aside from that, this X3 makes an excellent soundcard for my computer.

Worth the purchase for this feature alone.

Re: UX2 on Dell Laptop w/Vista Ultimate Unusable

Hi PlusPlus

Sadly, it's a Dell Laptop.

I have a Studio 17, and there is no way I'll ever be able to get that Laptop to work with any audio gear for realtime recording / processing.

It's basically a bios issue, to do with DPC Latency, Vista and the graphics card, oh and ACPI power management.

It would have run fine under xp, because xp has a bug that runs the 'graphics' drivers on max.

On Vista, you'd need to fool the graphics card that it's running on max to let the ACPI - or power management to think you want to use your cpu on max power.

Otherwise, the graphics drivers interupt the realtime processing - giving you, me and anybody else with a Dell Studio xx running Vista the clicks, pops and high latency we never thought we should hear in 2009 on a dual 2.4ghz cpu. Sadly, none of this is possible on a Dell Studio presently. Ask Dell, they may claim ignorance, but they know about these issues.

Having said that, if you're using the realtime monitoring on the Line6, you should be able to set a high enough latency to avoid the CPU spikes whilst recording and mixing.

I have a Pod XT Live, and it works well enough to record.

Also, along with the very accurate suggestions above, also try and dissable all of the Dell utilities, especially the Webcam, which takes up most of the idle cpu. This made a huge impact for me.

 Dave.
