I have a POD HD pro for over a year now and I can say there are no moving parts inside or other stuff that could make noise other than your own playing

OK, the way I do this: To "delete" a patch I just drag & drop an empty patch to the one I don't need anymore. To rename: right click the patchname change the name and use the TAB key to move out of the field. In both cased send the updates to the POD HD otherwise the changes will not be permanent.

I don't know if this will help but try it anyway: It looks like the monitoring option in Cubase is set to Tapemachine Style and this means you hear the recorded (output) signal and not the input signal. I don't use Cubase anymore but check the monitoring settings in Cubase (probably located in the preferences menu option under the File menu).

If you want a free drummachine that comes with various patterns try the Percumat 2 (VST). You can create your own patterns, but there are also >100 patterns included ready to use..
