Good post! I've noticed the same exact thing. The JTV is definitely an improvement over previous Variaxes but, I've often wondered if the low-mids were a bit too much. Maybe I should mess with workbench to correct this?

How about a similar issue: When I power up my HD500 with my JTV already connected via VDI cable, the guitar is at full volume even though the volume knob is all the way off. For example, I'll practice the night before and always turn my guitar volume off when I'm done. The next day when I power up the HD500, my JTV's volume is on and I hear it through my amp, even though the knob is at zero. Has anyone else had this occur? This is not really a problem at a gig but, my first issue has been and I still cannot re-produce the 1st issue at will. It is very random and puzzling.

Greetings everyone,

I searched but did not find anything on this issue I have. Sometimes, and it is not very often, when I change patches on my HD500 the volume on my JTV59 goes to zero. I will then have to rotate the JTV's volume knob back and forth to get volume to come back. I have the latest firmware for both devices and I do not use the feature that allows the JTV's volume and tone knobs to act as controllers. It seems to happen randomly, with no specific patch that causes it. Do you think it is the HD500 or JTV causing this issue?

Tuner Problem After New Update

Just wondering if anyone else has had the following issue:

Equipment:

JTV 59 (v1.8) plugged into POD HD 500 (v2.0) via variax digital cable.

Issue:

Alternate tuning knob on JTV set for "1/2 Down.

Go into tuning mode on HD 500. Display shows I am 1/2 down but when I come out of tuning mode, the JTV reverts to Standard tuning and I have to rotate my alt tuning knob off of "1/2 Down" and back again to be 1/2 down.

I've re-installed my JTV update but, haven't done the HD 500 yet. Do you think it is an issue with the 500 or the JTV update? I've had another issue with the JTV but I'll address that in another discussion.

EDIT:

I forgot to add that when I program a patch in the 500 to force the JTV into an alternate tuning and switch from that patch to another, the JTV again reverts to standard tuning. Is this normal for everyone?

leyfr01, I do have the newest firmware (1.71?) and I still hear the warbling. It's not as bad as my Variax 500 but, still slightly noticeable. In a live coverband situation, I can easily live with it. Thanks for your reply!

ozbadman, Thank you for your reply as well. I will be watching out for it and will still be taking my variax 500 to the next few gigs also, just in case.

I am not good at writing reviews but I will at least say that the guitar is very nice. I have experienced only one minor glitch so far and this was in the first hour or two of playing. The model knob must have gotten stuck between the pickups and modeling selection and was causing the guitar to freak out. After playing with all the knobs (because I didn't know at the time what the cause was) it stopped and has been fine ever since. I received the guitar last Friday and played a gig with it the next night. I did not use any other guitars that night and had no problems whatsoever and I, and my bandmates, thought it sounded excellent.

The fit and finish is excellent as well. The neck feels virtually identical to my Gibson LP Standard with the rounded '59 profile. I did have to adjust the intonation and lower string height just a tad. One minor gripe is that after playing for only a short time, my fingers turned black! I put new strings on and still my fingers turned black. Must have been something on the fingerboard. It has almost cleared up now but, wow, that was weird.

I was able to use the alt tunings and could play songs without a capo while the other guitarist still had to use his! He got a good laugh when he looked over and saw I wasn't capo'd. I agree with another poster that with the acoustic models, you still get the warbling sound if you virtual capo up more than 2 frets. Even at 2 frets it still has a slight warbling quality to the sound.

That's my two cents. I plan to make this my main axe and take only it to gigs.

jenningsmusic, congratulations to you! If you don't mind me asking, what color JTV 59 did you get? I ordered a 59 tobacco burst from Sweetwater back in December. Still waiting for mine.
