Seem like good people to deal with so if they can get close to the price of others I go with them. Anyway thx for the help, I'll be trying an exchange I expect to get a response on returning the guitar tomorrow. With any luck the next one will be closer to spec, if not i'll hang my hat for a while.

Maybe this is what you were talking about in regards to string height? At any rate I think the guitar needs a professional setup. I tweaked on it and did get the majority of the buzz out and do think it made some difference. Will be checking out any links. thanks

Updating software was the first thing I did and then when the alternate tunings screwed up I did it a second time. Of course 29 perfect sounding models sounds like a great thing.. but if you playing through one amp and using the same pedals then there is not that much difference between the sounds of the models.. lol. In truth I can get dozens of great sounds out of the 5 settings on my prs studio and to me it would be the perfect guitar if it could do alternate tunings. But it cannot. So ya one model such as my prs that did alternate tunings would be all I personally would need, well being able to do that on my taylor would be awesome as well.

I am going to be searching for "larry lion" postings when i get home from work and also looking for Neil's links. It certainly sounds reasonable that string height might make a difference, although the action is decent on the guitar now and its not like its a gk3 pickup or something but I am willing to try several things before calling it quits.

Thanks so much for suggestions so far, hoping this works!!

I can't help but think the bridge itself is part of the low E issue, since the 59 in magnetic mode has less lowE presence than I am used to but better than the models if I am remembering right.

Please send the links and i will give it a whirl. As far as my needs, I play a variety of music from steve miller band to the black keys and gov't mule to queensryche and foo fighters. tunings : standard, half step down, half step down with drop d, full step down, drop c, open g, open d. Palm muting is used often but not like a metal player.

new 59 sound

Ok so I decided to buy a jtv primarily because I am lazy and wanted to easily switch tunings for playing with jammit songs and other song tracks, with luck also experiment with

slide and other things i tend to shy away from because of retuning or keeping multiple guitars geared up.

I received the 59 humbucker version last week, it was reasonably setup with a few minor finish flaws but playable. I updated it and started experimenting. My thoughts were basically

the sound of the magnetics were comparable to my epiphone ultra ii, the heel access is really good for a LP. Playing models I definitely hear the occasional piezo quack, the string with the

weakest sound is the low E, just has no thump to it. Some of the models or pickup variations of the models are so dark and muddy I can't understand the purpose, others are so high

and tinny. A couple selections are pretty good sounding, the acoustic settings through my fishman artist sound better than the ultra II I have but still don't sound as "acoustic" as my taylor

however good for an electric guitar. One day when playing the guitar using alternate tunings everything came out a warble, but reupdated it again and it hasn't reoccured yet.

I really want to like this guitar because I think it could be a good practice guitar for my original purpose. It doesn't sound as "alive" as my prs studio but despite claims in ads I guess its not fair

to compair to a $2700 instrument, I am playing it through my mesa boogie ta-30 using single pedals and the 1/4' output of the guitar. So I guess what I am asking is for thoughts on setup or tweeking

to make it more I don't know... as advertised. I think it would work for the practice play along with tracks guitar i intend it to be but want it to be more satisfying than that, for $1300.

I know many of you swear by the jtv so just looking for tips, I am not much of a tweeker but will look into suggestions. The warble issue I experienced is bothering me and I am hoping it will not return. The serious lack of low E presence is a big disapointment. Really those two things are dominant in my concern. I don't need 29 pristine sounding instruments, hell one really good sounding one in a variety of tunings would suit my

tastes just fine. So .. not sure the variax is for me, maybe it would be better to keep multiple cheap guitars tuned up differently but really want one guitar for travel or when practicing songs of different tunings

back to back. Suggestions are appreciated, but fyi not interested in buying more parts of the "dream rig", been there and doesn't fit with my anti-tweaker soul.

thanks

oz
