Because HD Pro is one of their latest products, so yeah it was reliable by the past, but what's in front of us ? How can I know I will find help/support if I have any problem with a totally different product, the team behind is the same ! To me it's not 100% reliable anymore ! Who knows if this S/PDIF problem with POD HD is the only hiden problem ?

You know what I mean ? Maybe you think I'm paranoid but I'm not rich, I can't spend 500 Euros everyday, so I'll go for the company I know I can rely on, because of the money and because gear has to be reliable when you're out playing or recording !

If they had answered me "Yes we know that, we are very sorry, we found that out recently blah blah blah" I would understand, that can happens, but without any answer you just feel like a **** ! You're all alone with your 600 Euros unit you can't record with... (Even more lonely when you bought this one ONLY because it has S/PDIF connections, it's almost comical)

The amount of variables are not that many and you can trust me I tried them one by one... (And the fact is the Eleven Rack works like a charm with SPDIF at all sampling rates)

As stumpsout said it's a terrible waste of time and money...

My POD HD Pro, S/PDIF and Line 6 bad experience

Hi,

I just wanted to share my disapointement (As I can't find any commerical service) about what happened to me, here's the story : I first had a POD HD500, but I sold it one year later because I wanted to do some reamping with a POD HD Pro plugged with S/PDIF (Best quality signal) in my RME Fireface . Of couse I asked questions first and did a lot of researches about reamping with POD HD.

After I finally bought a POD HD Pro I spent a hell of a week trying to get the POD working with S/PDIF syncronised with my sound card, I find out that the POD HD Pro doesn't work at 44.1kHz sampling rate if you plug S/PDIF In and Out (It works with In OR Out thought). Only 96kHz, or the noises it makes are just unbelievable. Of course all of my Logic projects are saved at 44.1kHz so I can't do anything with the POD plugged with S/PDIF... (Except live use, which is not my goal)

Of course I contacted Line 6 support and RME support the same day. Something like 3 days later we already shared many emails with RME support, they told me to try this and that but they ended saying the problem is from the POD (I'm always careful because sometimes brands only try to get away with customer's problem they can't solve), then Line 6 support answered me once like one week later with basic questions, I answerd back, sending all the emails shared with RME thinking that would help, but the guy just stopped answering me...

So it seems that all the POD HD Pros can't work with S/PDIF at 44.1kHz (If it works for you, let me know), which is totally crazy, and there's no warning about that. Great.

I was so angry and disapointed I sold it back and bought an Eleven Rack that totally fills my needs and dreams so far !

I had planned to buy a XD V75 wireless mic but I'm not as confident as I was... First I'll probably see what other brands have.

As I did a lot of researches I know that people with such bad experience with Line 6 are not many, I hope, (And I had a lot of Line 6 gear myself by the past), but this time you screwed it up !

I hope this will help a few users or Line 6 to fix a few things.

Thanks for reading.

Hi ! Sorry for the late answer, and thank you for the reply, the forum is buggy AS HELL !!!

Yeah that's right ! That sounds like buffer size is too small ! But there's actually set at 1024... The biggest I can !

I found out that works fine at sampling rate 96kHz, which is of course too big for me, and all my projects are saved at 44.1...

And I did a few more test, everything works fine as long as I keep only one SPDIF cable plugged in. In or Out, doesn't matter. But as soon as I plug both : HELL !

I wrote to RME too, they send me a few emails trying to find what is the problem but didn't succeed yet, no news from Line 6 so far. That really **** me off, you really feel alone in that kind of situation !

I don't know what the problem comes from, it seems that the Fireface settings are good, I'm not as sure with the POD but it seems ok too me... (I spent days and days on it trying to fix it so I begin to know it well ! lol But I maybe missed a setting somewhere, like Slave/Master but I think it's Master by default)

If someone got any suggestion I take it !

Thank you

POD HD Pro sync problem with RME Fireface

Hello,

I just bought a second S/PDIF cable to plug them In and Out with my Fireface for reamping.

So of course I plug POD Out>FF In and POD In>FF Out

But here's the sound I get with different settings, some with POD as Slave (Sound was better) and then as Master (It's worse) but now when I switch back to Slave that's the same noise all along... :

http://soundcloud.com/julianleemartin/sets/pod-hd-pro-sync-problems-with

I don't know what to do anymore, it's driving me crazy since 2 hours...

Any suggestion ? Don't know if the problem is from the Fireface or POD... I tried a lot of stuff, different settings, reboots etc... But it seems it's getting worse so I prefer to stop touching anything ! I'm afraid to damage something.

I think the only problem is to go to Fireface Out to POD In, it works in the other way !

Thank you very much !

EDIT : Now I did a few global settings reset, I tried a few more things, it worked during maybe 5 minutes with S/PDIF then goes WIIIIUUUUUUU like a larsen/feedback effect...

EDIT 2 : Yeah larsen effect was because of a bad routing with RME's TotalMix. Now it still works for a few minutes and then it crackles as HELL !!! No more sound, only BZZ KRRR BZZ KRR BZZ with the all the Fireface LEDs lighting like a Chistmas tree until I turn it off... This is pretty impressive !

Here is a sample I tried to record with a Beta 58A but I was in a hurry that's not very representative, imagine a loud volume and more intense sounds : http://soundcloud.com/julianleemartin/fireface-noises

It's not suppositions anymore.

I received it today, I did a few tests I'm very happy.

So of course the main feature I'm interested in is the reamping... I was thinking to proceed as follow :

               - Plug the guitar in the front,

               - Recording the Dry Signal out in my DAW (Logic)

               - Then use the S/PDIF In/Out of my sound card and POD (Fireface 400) to route the Out of the channel strip to the POD, and the Out of the POD to the In of the channel strip.

Once the Dry is recorded the goal (In my mind) is to set up a "loop" between Fireface and POD threw S/PDIF.

But I got only one S/PDIF cable (I'll go buy another one if you confirm that my idea makes sense)

So for the first tests today I plugged the XLR Balanced Outs of the POD into my Fireface (To replace the POD S/PDIF Out > Fireface In), thinking I'll be able to use the S/PDIF In as I was talking above.

But that didn't work out... There's was no signal threw the S/PDIF so I had to plug a Jack from a Fireface Out to the POD's guitar in (In the front), and that way it works perfect !

So is that S/PDIF "loop" might work or am I wrong ? If I'm wrong so what is this S/PDIF In for ??

Thank you very much !

And I'm sorry once again, all that "Ins/Outs" systems are very messy in my mind...

Ps : I watched on the online manual (The guy didn't send it to me) but can't find nothing about reamping...

That is very interesting ! Thank you very much !

That sucks because there's not much videos about people singing (Or even recording) in the XD V-75... (Btw I'm interested in the wireless handheld microphone version but you probably guessed)

But I'll buy it more confidently now, thanks Ron

And I was considering to buy a TC Helicon Correct XT to use when recording at home or live. Good or bad idea ?

Stage + rehearsals for sure, but if I can add recording that would be a blast !

What do you think ?

Thank you !

(I actually own a HD 500 I'm gonna sell for a Pro because of the reamping option)

I guess it works as the HD 500 : Guitar > POD SPDIF Out > RME Fireface SPDIF In (I made a lot of test, SPDIF seems to be the best sounding output)

But what next ?

Thanks

Ps : I wonder why Line 6 doesn't make a damn plugin version...
