Thanks Mr. Arkadin... I do see that and it is VERY helpful! Kinda funny, but I think my future process may be:

1) Create new post instead of searching

2) View the post and check out the "More Like This"

3) Make a note in my original post that I found the answer in one of those other posts

Ok, that's a joke of course.... But the problem is, I need to find a relevant post first, before the forum offers me other similar discussions, and I am having trouble finding any single post, for example, when I search for "global tempo".

I have read through these search tips but they do not seem to be working for me: http://line6.com/support/search-tips.jspa

I have been searching for discussions regarding the hd500 and global tap tempo. When I type: "global tempo" (minus the quotes) in the search field at the top of the page, I get 2 results, buit neither really seems applicable, unlike these posts which I think should show up in the search results:

If I include the quotes and search for "global tempo" I get zero results. What should I search for to return the three disucssions listed above?

I think I am missing something obvious (aside from my inability to adequtely search these forums... I never seem to find what I'm searching for, but that's another topic

So, I set a tempo via the tap button, let's say 100bpm. Now I switch do a different preset... And the tempo is no longer 100bpm. Is there some way to maintain that 100bpm across all my custom presets? And if I tap out 80bpm now, I would like to be able to switch between presets and have them all "synced" to 80bpm.

Seems silly to have to re-tap my tempo every time I change presets - I hope I am explaining this clearly!

I've played around with the various global/preset tempo settings, but cannot seem to achieve my goal. Is this a limitation of the HD500?

My apologies for making a similar post (and for resurrecting this one) but there may be an alternative - instead of assigning an expression pedal to the looper volume, perhaps it's possible to position the looper more granularly than just pre/post... Then you could follow it with a volume pedal, delay, etc.

Thanks, all, for your excellent ideas. Unfortunately, for what I am looking to do, I require the looper to play underneath a second part that I am performing live... So the only alternatives (as I see them) are:

Use a second device for looping (which I am not favoring since the HD500 gets us about 90% of the way there!)
Have the ability to place the looper elsewere in the effect chain/parallel path (see the feature request in my response to Mincer, above)
Have the ability to route the looper to a separate output - then we could place an external volume pedal between the looper output and the amp
Have the ability to control the volume of the looper via expression pedal
Have the ability to specify an attenuation level, and assign an attenuation toggle to one of the foot switches (then the looper woudl fade out liek a delay... this seems pretty complicated though)

But if there are other options, I'm all ears

Hey Mincer, thank you very much for the suggestions and the link! I have submitted my feature request... I don't know how responsive Line6 is to such things, nor what the technical implications are of my request, but let's keep our fingers crossed!

FWIW, here's what I included as my feature request:

Hey there... I am *loving* the HD500, it's great to see a device like this done right. The PC-based editing is outstanding, the effects are plentiful and sound great, and there's so much flexibility... and potential.

One of the things I think would be a powerful feature (both from a performance and a selling point) would be the ability place the looper anywhere in the effect chain. My primary reason for this request is the ability to control the volume level of the looper output independently from the overall output.

Right now, when I play over a loop and I want to transition from the loop back to non-loop performance, my only choice is to turn the loop off. And that makes for rather abrupt transitions that sometimes kill the moment. My solution as of now is to more or less play whatever the loop is playing over the loop, and stop the loop, and then transition manually - but of course, then I must stop playing lead, switch to rhythm (or whatever is playing in the loop) and work my way back into wherever I needed to go.

If the looper could be placed in a parallel chain (e.g. say the main axe is on the A chain with effects, and the looper is on the B chain), I could follow it with EXP2 as a volume pedal and fade the looper out with my foot- independently from my main guitar... nice!

Of course this would also open a whole world of effect possibilities for the looper, from boosting with a little compression, to pitch manipulation, to passing through a delay (which also could be used as an incremental fade)... etc etc...
