I use the fx loop. Just take a very short chord from the send to the return. Place it in the chain and set the level you want assign a switch and off you go. Been using it live for about a year.

Largest wrench seems to fit, how far did you raise the trem? If the neck is straight your truss is fine. I would bring it to a luthier you trust unless you are very confident in working with the truss. In the past I have also shimmed the nut slightly.

I had some string buzz issues when I first got the guitar but I raised the bridge primarily on the low E side and the problem was solved. I have not looked at the trussrod yet and will do that when I get home. Where is the buzzing happening? Close to the nut?

The HD500 actually takes over as the sound card when connected via USB. Also there are no "DEDICATED" acoustic amps or preamps as there would be with pod farm so you might be able to get better results. The 80s band is called Hot Neon Magic but I dont think there any recordings with either Variax. I do have a progressive original band called Elephants of Scotland and you can clips or listen to our debut album which has the jtv 59 all over it.

Well the second guitar recorded was the JTV 59, . However to me they are so close I can't tell much of a difference that can be directly attributed to the Graphtech piezos and not to some unconscious playing variability. To be honest what i have found is that any string buzz on the fret board gets translated directly to the piezo which you can here one hard pick strike on the JTV 89F in the beginning. There are heavier guage strings on the 89F and it still needs some slight adjustment and may have some slight volume over the 59. I will compare the waves directly to each other.

These were recorded directly into the HD 500 with the vdi cable and into Audacity at 24 bits, both guitars update to version 1.9

My kybd player who does a lot of production work could not tell the difference but in a live situation he and the bass player swore up and down the 89F sounded fuller. The Bass player thought the 2nd guitar sounded fuller on this recording.

I will postsome Fender, Gibson head to heads.

My lead singer also swore she thought the 89F sounded better than the 59 in a live situation with my 80s new wave cover band, but right now doing these side by side comparisons there does not seem to be a glaring difference. Of course this could be my ears after 25 years of ballistic testing and 35 years of playing on stage right next to the drummers cymbals. This does bring up an interesting possible guitar shape perception bias or maybe there is a coloring that is present in the PA and not as noticeable on a recording.

Regardless, I am very happy with the new 89F and it sounds like you are also. In the end thats all that matters.

Okay, a JTV and JTV 89F Gibson J-200 Acoustic head to head. Forgive the playing just trying to give a decent shake out for both sounds. Run through an H500 using the Dreadnaught Patch from Custom Tone.

Great, thanks Phil I seemed to remember the same thing but thanks for verifying. I think the other differences have to do with string guage and the graphtech piezos.

OKay as stated in the header I have a few questions about differences between the JTV59 and the JTV89F which, I am very happy to say as of yesterday I am the owner of both.

First off I would just like to ask if these magnetic pickups are the same in both guitars? I seem to remember they were different (I was pleasantly surprise to see the 89F coil tapped in position 2 and 4) and I do pick up a difference in sound between the two going through an HD 500 but wanted to verify.

I just want to make sure that the differences I am hearing (or perceiving) is not due to string life, (new vs old, coated vs non coated), Version, and or Graphtech vs. LR baggs. Obviously each one of these will have an effect and I am going through my own internal checklist to make sure everything that I can have identical (strings, Version) is so I can make a direct comparison.

So if anybody knows what the 89F ships with for strings it would be appreicated also. All opinions are welcome and once I get the same straings and verify the version are up to date on the JTV59 I will post A/B comparisons.

Thanks to all in advance for any insight you can give me. I might even throw some VAX 700 into the mix.

I know what you mean. I just received my 89F and in the past had a very nice Kramer with a Floyd but with the Hex bolts. Same beast different interface. I adjusted my lower strings up because it was just a tad to buzzy for my playing style rightout of the box. Worked flawlessly. I also commented to my keybaord player how the hardwar has stayed pretty much the same between my 88 Pacer Custom and the 89F.

I personally have had no problems with updating flash via the HD500 on my 59 but I didn't need to do it with the 89F. But hey whatever works and you feel comfortable with march on.

I would have to say that the JTV line has improved sound over the 700. Whether its because of the newer processing schemes and updated hardware in modling chip in the JTV or the simple fact of the guitar's design. I bought a JTV59 ahile ago and used my 700 as an onstage backup and there was a subtle but noticeable difference between the two that my band picked up on.

In my opinion the "guitarness" of the JTV seems to come through more. Also you do have the detune on the fly options and the pickups themselves. I just received my 89F yesterday and noticed difference in sound between it and the 59. However that may be due to string age.
