Also, is your computer recognizing it as an output device?
Re: What Amps, Powered Monitors, Power Amp/Passive Monitors?

I prefer to run my through tube amps. I have a few different amps (combos, heads and power amps) that I use and I just run my L/MONO out into the effects return of the amp. This way I am only using the power section of the amp. I also have a couple different Carvin power amps that I use once in a while, but when using a solid state power amp there is a brittleness to the sound that rubs me the wrong way. The tube amp really helps mellow out the high end and give it some warmth.

I have a few Carvin 2x12 cabs that I use with V30s in them.

Re: How to plug the Pod HD500 into my amp.

Turn the master volume of the POD down and plug the output of the POD into the effects returns of the amp. Set the level of the output jack to "amp" instead of line.

I would also make sure the output settings of the POD are set to combo power amp.

What this should do, depending on the effects loop in the amp, is use the amp essentially like just a power amp. None of the controls on the front of the amp should work and you adjust the volume from the POD. This is how I use my HD Pro. If you have a parallel effects loop you will still be able to adjust volumes on the front of the amp. Its serial, the front controls shouldnt work.

You can also use it in fron of your amp like a stomp box, or you can use the 4 cable method and run it through your effects loop. There are a few options. Remember to change the output settings depending on what method you use.

--Mike

Re: Why do they make these things so complicated?

Headphones will always sound different. Just like different speakers and cabs configurations sound different. Its the nature of sound. Take or example standing in front of your cab while playing and walk around. You will hear the tone change because of phase issues and sound direction. Also the guitar tone out of a FRFR PA can be quite a bit different than what you hear out of your amp or your IEM/headphones.

What I do is write up a little key for the different types of connections once I know what they are. If I am using my tube amp, I connect the green dots. If I am going into the PA, I use the red dots. Once you do it a few times you will have it down.

The advantage of having so many options is also a detraction because it can get complicated. But thats also the power of these units. They are very flexible.

--Mike
